Lurking Freepers: Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. |
|
If you're going to use his full name so you can place all that heavy emphasis on his super-scary Muslim/Arab middle name (clever, subtle creatures that you are) then put the fucking "Jr." after it.
And after you're finished doing that, you can go back to celebrating the victories of John Sidney McCain III.
And if you're really lucky, one day you can rally behind John Sidney McCain IV for president in 2024 or so.

4. Exactly! He was named after his father! |
|
Something you would think the pro-family-values crowd would go all ga-ga over.
Oh, wait, I forget myself. Obama is not pro-family because he's a) still married to his first wife, and b) never cheated on his wife by having a gay affair/fling
Foolish me...

6. The political "experts" told him he should change his name before he ran for office. |
|
He obviously decided not to follow that advice.

13. I like his name. It is a strong, kick-ass name. He actually thinks people are smarter then |
|

most people give them credit for and so far, I think he is right.
There are always some idiots but most people appreciate being talked to and treated like adults.

29. Had he chosen to go with Barry, |
|
people would say he was ashamed of his name, family, etc., and make a bigger fuss. You'd never hear the end of it.
I'm glad he used his given name.
Peace:thumbsup:

IT WILL BE AN ISSUE - but if he had changed it and it got out that he changed it it would have made it worse.
I don't think it should be an issue - but it will be....

16. Me too. It was just about the only thing he got from his father and it probably |
|
made his childhood more difficult sometimes. Imagine the first day of school with a new teacher or anytime someone was trying to figure out how to say his name.
This reminds me of one of his speeches - I think it was while campaigning in South Carolina. He said "I didn't have a famous name" and someone in the audience yelled out "You do now!". :D
I think it speaks well of him that he wasn't willing to change his name. He hates shallow-assed crap like that.

21. This is so silly, but I love getting my campaign updates and they're |
|
signed just...
Barack
Just that.
Even tho I know 50 million other people got one, it seems like its just me; and that I really know this man who is going to be President of the United States. He's not an untouchable, unreachable figure. He's a good man, a down to earth person, a real human being and more than that, a friend.. not an icon.. a friend who brings us Hope and will help us make America a better place. He's just Barack.

caucus supporters who they knew had showed up for him.
They had an organizer with a list at the precinct who was checking in the people who had pledged to be there for Obama.
It wasn't on the campaign letterhead they normally send out.
It was just a plain e-mail. Signed like you said above. It felt personal because we took that leap for him first which was important - he knew it and so did we. :)

Yeah, that makes the family stronger, both parents working full time to not live in a slum.

15. You're right, I've said this before myself. |
|
Back in 1991, when we fought a war against Saddam Hussein - but left him in power, he should have changed that middle name. He was way past Kindergarten at that point, and had hopes of one day running for President. All throughout Bill's presidency, we continued to have problems with Saddam, at least at some point during the 90s he should have made the wise move and changed it. The fact he didn't - another sign of Obama's laziness? Troubling.

19. also a gross lack of political acuity |
|
i'm sure many politicians around the world with "hitler" in their name or "adolf" got rid of it. Obama coulda done so with Hussein, and just said he wanted to shorten it, or the name no longer reflected his values.

24. what was meant was states in which 1/2 the dem primary electorate is black |
|
i was solely referring to states in the primary stage right now, not the general. The point was that in southern state primaries, he can be expected to win because of the racial factor, and such should be no surprise, by which I mean Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina. But we should not expect him to win any deep south states in the general. in the GE they will go republican because when you factor in the general electorate comprising of repubs and indys, they are more conservative and still pissed over civil rights. thats all that was being said.

Dunno, I'm not in the "Cult of Obama" or whatever his fans are being called nowadays, but since he was two when his parents divorced and he was raised by his mother, that might be it.
Or I could be full of shit! :-)

It doesn't have to make sense.
Like when my ex decided to go back to her maiden name two years after we separated. No reason, really, for it to nag at me a little, but it does.

26. Of course that's true, but if he changed his middle name, |
|
he would still share his father's first and last name, so it would not at all be a total abandonment of his parentage. Also, we all know about Obama's church in Chicago. Surely sometime in the 90s he could have changed his middle name from a generic Arab Muslim name to a more Christian one, as a kind of committment to his Christian faith. Christian? Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John, or maybe Paul? (Maybe not Luke though - BLO would not be the best set of initials given Obama's revelations about youthful indiscretions in that first book of his. ;))

claiming he's hiding his Muslim background.
He doesn't need to change it. He needs to be open and honest about it, like he's been doing.
