Clinton raises $10 MILLION ONLINE and gains 100,000 DONORS since Super Tuesday
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 02:01 AM by Herman Munster
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/02/clinton_finds_a_donor_base.php

According to the Clinton campaign, 100,000 of Hillary Clinton's enthusiastic donors have contributed more than $10M since Feb 5.

Now these numbers are looked at with suspicion by Obama allies. They can't possibly see how Clinton could generate some of the same enthusiasm that Obama does -- they can't stand comparisons of his donors to hers.

But unless the Clinton campaign is just flat out lying, which I will stipulate is most likely not the case, something is going on here that we can't fully appreciate or understand just it.

27. Exactly! I saw NY Post banner and the nasty posts here - and DONATED!
hadn't planned to do so - din't think she needed my money.
I am sure many of her voters had the same revelation.

3. how she is coming alive
and I think people are starting to get passionate behind her. Hopefully she is harnessing the anti-war movement hard enough that they will back her in 2008, as Kerry got the Dean folks to do

7. Obama begging? NO I know because I gave to him twice and ........
have only been politely called once in the last two months asking if I could donate. My 2 donations were unsolicited. So can it please.

face facts. she is the corporate candiate of the 2008 election cycle. Even McCain must do a "we're not worthy" chant to her.

I want to know what will be the upcoming milestones in Hillary's campaign, states she has a chance in. There needs to be a thread explaining her path to securing the nomination, all the states she'll need to win.

11. I want to say something about the e-mails asking for donations for Hillary.
They are polite in presentation. They don't jump right in your face asking for money, although you know it's coming. :)

Always a kind thank you is noted for a prior donation. Information is given as to what's happening in the campaign, what they foresee, a bit of strategy-sharing, that sort of thing. Then usually there's a request for the dollars, followed by a bit more info, and then another polite request for dollars.

I've donated before to candidates, and I remember there were times where I got so tired of the repetitious breathless requests for money all packed into one little e-mail that I wouldn't even open the message. I like the laid-back approach that Hillary is using.

That's my experience, anyway. YMMV.

19. I feel for you
Before I gave to Obama in December I had never given to a political campaign before, despite voting for Gore and Kerry while I was a young student. Obviously about 70% of Democrats in November will not be able to pull the lever in November for their absolute #1 candidate

The question is, will you vote for the person with the big Mo right now and could be the nominee?

Clinton's money

She's raised $10 million from 100,000 donors this month, spokesman Phil Singer emails.

As Ambinder notes, that's not something people who follow this stuff are having an easy time understanding. On the other hand, a reader tells me his 70-year old mother used her credit card on the Internet for the first time ever this week, to send Hillary money.

She raised only $13.5 million in the entire month of January and had to loan her campaign money. Now she's claiming to have raised $10 million since Feb. 5.

Why didn't she make an appeal in January?

21. Because that would have sent two messages:
1) she needed money
2) she needed money because Obama might beat her

kind of conflicts with the inevitability meme

24. I've given her $600 so far
I have pledged to max out by giving her $500 for Ohio, $500 for Texas, and $500 for Pennsylvania. I'll make up the rest before the GE provided she wins that. I love her. She just takes beating after beating from every direction but keeps standing firm. Win, lose, or draw, oppressed and tyranized women throughout the world should be so proud of her. For their sake as much as anything, I truly hope she wins this thing. Thank you for permitting me to say this. I have been wanting to say it for some time.
peace

25. Your theme is correct
Your commentary is not.

From the Obama camp, congratulations on your stellar fundraising. We're probably ok with our fundraising too. Let's go talk to the voters. May the best candidate win.
