93. You wouldn't vote for Dem House or Senate candidate?
Look, I'm not voting for Hillary under any circumstances. I'll pull the lever for the Green, Socialist or Communist candidate that best reflects my beliefs. But I'm not staying home and handing the Senate back to the GOP, or allowing the House to fall into the clutches of the far right reactionaries.

Whatever differences the Obama & Clinton camps may have, I'd like to think they could agree on THAT much. Even if McCain were elected, he couldn't do a whole hell of a lot for the next 4 years if he were facing massive Dem majorities in Congress, and I have a feeling he'd probably cave in on a number of issues (or have his vetoes overriden).

JMO.

130. Yep, you nailed me...
I spent over 30 years working for progressive causes, voting for progressive candidates, donating (well, not much, but as much as I could afford) to progressive politicians/movements, and I suddenly saw the light, went and had my brain removed and joined the Free Republic just so I could come to DU and bash Republicans and DLC/Centrist Democrats.

Aren't you the clever one ...

Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 03:22 AM by CalGator
Look, I'm probably as much a fan of HRC as your are of BHO, but at the end of the day when it comes down to either candidate vs John McCain or Mike Huckabee, there is no doubt that either Dem candidate will be a vast improvement over the status quo or either Rep candidate.

The thing I most remember from 2004 was Bill Maher and Michael Moore literally begging Ralph Nader not to run because of his results in 2000. In 2000, both of these tools said there was no real difference between the Gore and Bush. Both voted for Nader. Not only did they get served, but the American people did. Don't let it happen in 2008.

35. Wrong
He has won 9 primaries and 9 caucuses and has won almost as many primaries as HRC. He has won more states than HRC. He has expanded his base. Super Tuesday proved it when he won 44% of the White vote overall (and he has won many states with mostly white populations). On Super Tuesday he even expanded on hispanic voters. He has won females in some states. Now where is Hillary expanding her base? Is she winning younger voters, is she winning independents, is she winning more black voters, is she winning male voters? Actually it's Obama who has been gaining while HRC has not shown much growth with her base.

105. According to column in NYT, he's increasing support all across the board
Blacks, hispanics, white males - you name it - not to mention major fund-raising advanatage. Frank Rich's column is at the top of the Times' most e-mailed articles, and is packed solid with facts, statistics, numbers. Those facts, statistics and numbers may be bad news for the Clinton campaign, but they do not comprise "gloating", which is defined as expressing malicious satisfaction. Another fact: this pro-Obama article is spreading far and wide via the New York Times, which has endorsed Clinton.

The piece is titled: "Next Up for the Democrats: Civil War", by Frank Rich
Here are some excerpts
The result? Black America has largely deserted the Clintons. In her California primary victory, Mrs. Clinton drew only 19 percent of the black vote. The campaign saw this coming and so saw no percentage in bestowing precious minutes of prime-time television on African-American queries.

That time went instead to the Hispanic population that was still in play in Super Tuesday’s voting in the West. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles had a cameo, and one of the satellite meetings was held in the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s smart politics, especially since Mr. Obama has been behind the curve in wooing this constituency.

But the wholesale substitution of Hispanics for blacks on the Hallmark show is tainted by a creepy racial back story. Last month a Hispanic pollster employed by the Clinton campaign pitted the two groups against each other by telling The New Yorker that Hispanic voters have “not shown a lot of willingness or affinity to support black candidates.” Mrs. Clinton then seconded the motion by telling Tim Russert in a debate that her pollster was “making a historical statement.”

It wasn’t an accurate statement, historical or otherwise. It was a lie, and a bigoted lie at that, given that it branded Hispanics, a group as heterogeneous as any other, as monolithic racists. As the columnist Gregory Rodriguez pointed out in The Los Angeles Times, all three black members of Congress in that city won in heavily Latino districts; black mayors as various as David Dinkins in New York in the 1980s and Ron Kirk in Dallas in the 1990s received more than 70 percent of the Hispanic vote. The real point of the Clinton campaign’s decision to sow misinformation and racial division, Mr. Rodriguez concluded, was to “undermine one of Obama’s central selling points, that he can build bridges and unite Americans of all types.”

37. So you're just going to stay home, and not vote...
well how childish and undemocratic of you.

Isn't the whole point of this to get the republicans out of office? No matter which candidate is running? And you do realize by not voting you're only giving them more power, right? Or maybe you don't really mind if they're in power?

63. Honestly, I don't see a lot of gloating.
I don't care who is ahead at any given time, there's no way I'm going to jinx things and gloat until after the election. I still remember how giddy a lot of people were the night before and the morning of the 2004 election, with a bunch of posters talking about landslide, landslide, landslide! What a letdown that was when the cold hard facts smacked us in the face.

I know you'll vote for the Dem nominee, if not for yourself, then for the citizens of the world who are at the mercy of our government's policies. God forbid we end up with McCain or that bigger freak Huckabee.

How about voting based on who you like, who you think will be best from the country, etc., rather than your perceptions of what an extremely small percentage of the electorate is saying here?

89. I remember the swagger and bully boy tactics of the Hillaryites early in the campaign
What with the whole inevitable air that Hillary was trying to project. These Hillaryites swaggered around here, trying to bully people into voting for Hillary, jumping and stomping people when weren't getting on the Hillary bandwagon, they were the main proponents of the daily loyalty oath posts.

Now that Hillary is losing, they whine and moan and gnash their teeth, all without stopping and thinking that hey, perhaps karma's a bitch sometimes, and usually comes up and slaps you in the face.

Now in irony of ironies, these folks who demanded party loyalty, on almost a daily basis, are now threatening to either vote McCain, vote third party, or stay home and pout. That makes them hypocrites of the worst sort, whiny, immature ones at that.

You folks, you Hillaryites, were arrogant assholes in the early months of this campaign, and now that your candidate is on the losing side, you're turning out to be whiny, petulant assholes. What do these two extremes have in common? Oh, yeah:think:

Remember how the Clinton supporters actively booed the other debaters at a debate, merely when they tried to respond to the moderator's questions?

I will never forget it. It is unforgiveable and generally reflective of how the Clinton people, incl. the Clintons themselves, are. It's all about THEM. It's either their way, or no way. Reminds me of someone else...now who could that be?

I don't think you are so fucking stupid to the point of helping a Republican win in November by not voting or voting third party or voting for McCain if Obama is the nominee.

I have a hard time believing that Democrats would be dumb enough to let some message board influence their vote in November. I can see not supporting Obama or Clinton in the nomination process and hoping that one of them loses. But not supporting either one of them is STUPIDITY, pure and simple, unless you don't mind another Republican White House, a continuation of the war in Iraq, more conservative judges being appointed, and failed Republican policies.

While your reminiscing, remember your non-vote when McCain's policies start wokring against your interests. You won't have a leg to stand on to complain.
