Chairman Mex-Am Caucus Texas endorsed Obama

by kubla000
Sun Feb 10, 2008 at 07:36:44 AM PST
Great news down in the Valley of Texas, which could be the final showdown between Team Clinton and the Forces of Change.

State Rep. Pete Gallego, chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, has announced he is endorsing Barack Obama for president.

The Alpine Democrat had earlier supported his near neighbor, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

The non-partisan Mexican American Legislative Caucus comprises most Hispanic members of the Texas House of Representatives. Gallego said he was in the process of contacting other Democrats in MALC to see who they are lining up for in the presidential election.

This is such solid good news

In the California primary on Super Tuesday, Latino voters broke 2 to 1 for Clinton. Gallego said he saw no reason why, as voters get to know Obama better, that ratio would not shrink in Texas.

“Obama’s life story and his values are so much closer to the Latino community than any candidate other than Bill Richardson,” Gallego said.

31. I clicked back on a post I'd commented on and that he'd trashed...
...on and saw his avatar was gone. That's a sure sign someone's been “offed”. Clicked on his post and saw the “concrete chapeau”...

And it was then that I realized, “Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.” :)

33. Mods swept through last night...
...and “Six feet undered” a bunch of the worst offenders. K-Guy, one named after part of the atom (not an electron, but a...), and another real thread trasher who was named himself after the X-Men. It was going to be a rough night what with the “sweep” by Obama and ramped up emotions on both sides, so i think they cracked down hard. I'm hoping they got some of the really bad lunatic anti-Hillary folk too.

36. Because I don't want to be buried myself for “calling out another poster”...
...now granted, these might be EX-posters, but as there is a crackdown in place, one can't be too careful.

That's all. :)

Bueno! “Obama’s life story and his values are so much closer to the Latino community than any candidate other than Bill Richardson,” Gallego said." Es Verdad, que no?

21. He picked that hat up right here in Austin
February 2007 when we had over 20,000 people gather for a rally for him in Austin.

Some good video here:
Austin Rally Sneak Peek

Those two young kids at the beginning of the video are Ian Davis and Amy Everhart Davis who have been part of the volunteer team in Austin for over a year. They rock! But there are hundreds of volunteers that have been helping for a long time.

Very good news.

This should help to get some Texas folks (especially Latinos) to take a closer look at Obama.

Great quote about Obama's life story and values. So true.

13. Gallego isn't just any other "Latino"
He is the chair of the Mexican-American Leadership Caucus (of the Texas House). He was selected by the coalition of Texas progressive blogs as one of the 2007 Texans of the Year.

His is only the most important progressive Latino endorsement in Texas. This is a signal that the Mexican-American bloc is not lockstep for Hillary, and comes at the worst possible time for her.

Clinton looked to have South Texas locked up, so I wonder what the polls will show in a week or so.

DFW and Austin seem to be warming to the message of change. I'm not so sure about Houston, though....
