At least Krugman mixes his disagreements with Obama with analysis of recession prospects, attacks on Republicans, etc.

The moderator of the "National Town Hall" event was a black woman.

And yet Frank Rich interprets the event as intentionally ignoring blacks.

One black woman, the former TV correspondent Carole Simpson, was given the servile role of the meeting’s nominal moderator, Ed McMahon to Mrs. Clinton’s top banana. Scattered black faces could be seen in the audience. But in the entire televised hour, there was not a single African-American questioner, whether to toss a softball or ask about the Clintons’ own recent misadventures in racial politics.

The Clinton camp does not leave such matters to chance. This decision was a cold, political cost-benefit calculus.

If John McCain did an event with a black moderator, no one in the press would say that blacks were under-represented there or that being a moderator is "servile."

Just like no one in the press is against John McCain's daughter working for his campaign, but when Chelsea Clinton works for her mother's campaign it means her parents have her "pimped out"

But he is now a regular columnist for the Times as well as author. I have a great deal of respect for Frank Rich, actually.
