Warning to Democratic Party regarding future Black Voters and Super Delegates, Florida and Michigan
Obama now has the majority of the delegate vote from the people, if the 800 or so "superdelegates" of past presidents, congress people, senators, Democratic party movers and shakers steal this election from Obama in an unfair way, black people including me will stay home this election and leave the party in droves, we have been taken for granted too long by the Democratic party. Similar situation is developing with the way Florida and Michigan is being handled. It would not only be blacks that feel this betrayal but so would many many other demographics who are supporting Obama. It is also clear from all the national polls that a Hillary vs Mc Cain match up, we lose, an Obama vs Mc Cain match up, we win easily!

It is time for the Democratic party to put up or shut up, give back something with a fair and just election, we don't want anything free or unjust, just give Obama a fair shot, DO NOT STEAL THIS ELECTION FROM HIM!!!

2. So is this what Obama meant when he threatened that "his voters" might not vote for Hillary?
In spirit I agree with you and personally believe the superdelegates will go with the candidate who won the most pledged delegates through the primaries but it is disturbing to see the Obama machine apparently readying the race card again.

6. That bothers me that someone would say that blacks would stay home
I don't understand that logic.

9. Probably,
they really meant that blacks should stay home.

I understand that logic if they have something to gain by blacks staying home.

4. If black people or any Democrats decide to stay home,
they will do so at their own peril.

There is a real possibility that this election will be stolen. Hell, the last two presidential elections were stolen. This one may not be different.

But, IMO, we cannot afford to give up.

5. You are surely not a Democrat. Real Democrats support counting every vote...
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 02:23 PM by suston96
...that includes votes cast by over 2 million Democrats in Michigan and Florida.

And can the bullshit about rules. Rules or laws diluting voting rights in any election are unconstitutional.

7. if the Clintons are successful in stealing the nomination, we all lose
I do not think the party leaders are so stupid as to wreck the party's golden opportunity to make the Democratic party a majority party for the first time in a long time. And certainly not so we can have CLINTON II: MORE OF THE SAME, EXCEPT WORSE.

8. I really doubt that Obama's people would play this card.
This sounds like an attempt to discourage the AA vote.

I noticed some of the same MSM rhetoric regarding New Orleans. They kept repeating that New Orleanians were depressed and cynical and not likely to vote. Obama's biggest win in the state was Orleans Parish 75-23.

It ain't gonna work!

23. Silly me,
I thought the division was there before Obama made a presidential bid. Divisive politics have existed for some time now.
Seems to me he is trying to unite. He could not have won Louisiana without white support. Frankly, I was surprised. If he can unite Louisiana voters, then maybe he is a Messiah.

BTW, I voted for Edwards.

11. I am black and you do not speak for me.
I feel Hillary will be a better President than Obama. Experience matters. Hillary has it and he doesn't.

In order to get the job done in Washington, I feel and insider is needed inorder to navigate the corridors to effectively make changes. An insider knows where to make the changes and how to get there with the least resistance. An outsider would like to throw the baby out with the bath water and start with a clean slate. This would be inefficient and expensive.

Like any African American, I want a black president. I just do not want Obama at this time. The black person I vote for will be a Washington insider who has seen the system up close and personal and will know where the bodies are buried. He will have a team around him that he has worked with for atleast 15 to 20 years. They will all be vested in him for more than an election cycle. He will be vetted; we will know his skeltons. Furthermore, the black person who recieves my vote for President will not need to rely as heavily on their advisors as Obama and Bush does. Finally, his spouse will support the nominee of the party if it is not him.

17. I do think
that a lot of black voters will stay home if a back room deal is cut and Obama doesn't get the nomination (if he's ahead going into the convention).

Not saying that's good or bad, but black voters would feel ike they're getting pushed to "the back of the bus" and the system is (yet again) set up against them. Especially when they see a great candidate like Obama being treated that way. You can call it playing the race card or whining or what have you, but race is a touchy issue given this country's history esp in the context of the disenfranchisement of the black vote.

You guys have to realize how bad that would look. Most voters aren't like the voters on DU. They have a loose party affiliation and politics is a transitory part of their lives. They aren't activists. So the "well then you aren't a REAL democrat!" retort will fall on deaf ears.

21. Bull.
Are you saying you know how all black voters will feel? Black people have been voting for white candidates for a long time now. It's an insult to assume they will take their ball and go home if they can't have the nominee they support. Besides all black voters aren't supporting Obama.

Do you think also think a lot of female voters will stay home if Hillary isn't the nominee? How will the women feel?

i think the democrat party has look after the Black People my friend. What has the repubublicans done for you, heck nothing they tried to ruin Powell, I don't think you have done any more for us by giving us your vote than we have done for you.. There are ruled that have to be gone by, and whom ever it hurts or helps will have to suck it up and go on living.

Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 04:37 PM by Crooked Moon
will be far more betrayed by those who would exploit this as "shenanigans" rather than take the time to educate them that this would be nothing more than an unfortunate application of party rules (which can be debated all day long, but which would not be in the slightest illegal or cheating).

using words like "steal" may serve your passions in the short-term, but in the long-term, it will serve only to deflate and scatter the party, which works in direct contradiction of blacks' interests.
