Barack Obama is all an ILLUSION
If you can't see that this Obama phenomenon is all ONE BIG ILLUSION, then you might want to consider renting the excellent movie, "The Idolmaker", starring Ray Sharkey, and you'll see.

Whether you like the following candidates or not...

Joe Biden has been there, done it.
John Edwards has been there, done it
Hillary Clinton has been there, done it.
Bill Richardson has been there, done it
Dennis Kucinich has been there, done it
Chris Dodd has been there, done it

Barack Obama has been where and done what?

It's all an illusion, folks.

The Curious Math of Hillary's "35 Years of Experience"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ari-emanuel/the-curious-math-of-hilla_b_82028.html
"But leaving that aside, why is it that you get to count your time canvassing for McGovern as working for change, but Obama's time as a community organizer and public housing advocate aren't worthy of mention? And what about his time at Harvard Law (where he was the first black president in the history of the Harvard Law Review)? Doesn't count? But your time at Yale Law does? In the now immortal words of your husband: Give me a break."

Hillary's "Experience" Lie
If that's her selling point, put me down for Obama.
http://www.slate.com/id/2182073/
"Thirty-five years takes you back to 1973, half of which Hillary spent in law school, for crying out loud."

Obama even has more experience than Bill Clinton did
Numerically, Bill Clinton had less experience in government than Obama does. In addition, Bill Clinton had ZERO foreign policy experience, whereas, while not much, Obama has 3 years in the U.S. Senate. The same goes for John Edwards, who has less than any candidate running for president.

Obama has also been a community organizer, lawyer, professor, and state senator.

142. Yeah, the Founders also tried but compromised with slave states and
we got a Civil War ---

Bill Clinton destroyed much of the New Deal and set us up for great job loss ---
and many other compromises ---

and much of it because he so weakened himself ---

he was weak from the beginning --- "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" ---

Look at how GW simply ignores what the public thinks and moves on to do whatever he wants ---
with no opposition from the Dems --- NONE

148. The New Deal hasn't been destroyed - we should be restoring
faith in our institutions, but tearing down our party apparatus in the name of grass roots movement is self-defeating. If we can't organize ourselves, how can we ask the American people to trust us?

Our salvation is that the GOP is even more divided. That's not much ... but if we can get back on a realistic dialogue we'll see how much of the progressive consensus remains.

the past almost 30 years and more ---

Yes, they have pretty much dismantled the New Deal ---

At the moment, we still have Social Security and

Medicare ---

but they are under threat of privatization ---

And, we are approaching economic nightmares because of the many financial regulations
which were lifted ---

THAT's how we got the Savings & Loan Theft and Embezzlements by the way . . .

And PENSIONS are also either being wiped out and/or they are not sufficiently supported by
payments from corporations.

Cuomo made that comment more than 15+ years ago when we were no where near the tax
reductions that the elite now have ---

Progressive taxes are barely discussed as an issue anywhere in our "free press"/corporate-media.

It's concept not well known today ---

Not only do you need to begin over again with the agenda of the New Deal, you need to re-educate
the public ---

Most of the New Deal isn't understood by the public today ---

They're not even sure how Social Security works after so many lies about "pyramid schemes" --
and by the way that was the Wall Street Journal line -- and "entitlements" by right-wing
propagandists ---

and was elected to the US senate. So while Hillary served one and a half terms as US senator, Barack has served two and a half terms, total.

Being near the president is not an office.

There are many opportunities to familiarize yourself with his extensive accomplishments, if you are sincere and really just don't know.

From a recent post here by another DUer:

He has accomplished far more than he is usually given credit for, but you can judge for yourself-

Not remotely. It was the first church to ordain blacks in the 18th century, the first church to ordain women in the 19th century, and the first church to perform gay weddings as a matter of church policy. It's quite simply the most progressive major church in the country. It is descended from the puritan churches in colonial New England, and played a huge role in abolition and the civl rights movement. It's also mostly white.

Symbolically, I would say that people are sick of it. Who the hell wants something that's real, when what's real stinks to high heaven.

And when you get around to the real issues, policies, and take a look at Obama's advisors any informed person would have to say he's more REAL than the illusion he's made out to be. I think most people know that, and that's why a majority of them are voting for him.

35. Illusion
Well, whether it's an illusion or not, the issue is that with the two current democratic candidates, some of us do not like where one of the candidates has been, nor what she has done. So because of that, I will give the other one my support. By the way, I'm new, I'm not a democrat- I'm an independent- and this place, although imperfect, has a helluva better bunch of people here than some of the other political sites that I've checked out.

What I was saying is that alot of people like myself (you know, the voting public)
were turned off with all the hubris and bluster that was Hill inc.'s
venture into healthcare reform. As a result, alot of people voted for pukes
for the first time in their lives. Unfortunately.
The pukes didnt get control of congress during Billary's term all by themselves.
They were voted in. With Bill doing such a great job, I wonder how that happened?
Maybe the real illusion is that Bill Clinton was a great president.

Another inexperienced leader in Obama guided by "older" more experienced hands. I am concerned and am looking for a more solid candidate. With the track record of the Democrats in Congress over the past 15 years, none of them really stand out as being qualified. The real illusion is the belief that any of them are really going to change much from the status quo. Dennis Kucinich may be the golden boy of the far left, but he would be hard pressed to get Congress to work with him on anything. The last truly independent, viable candidate we had was Howard Dean, and you saw how quickly they took him down.

None of us has the guts to come out from behind the blogosphere and say who we are. We spout and cut and paste and say vile things, all in secrecy. Barack Obama is the real deal. Hillary Clinton is the real deal. John Edwards is the real deal.

125. Not quite following you on that, PS
Your subject line wasn't clear to me. Did you mean, "If that's so, is the latest news that Hillary is doing poorly again an illusion?"

119. For one thing, he's been on the streets
working up-close and personal with the people the system has failed the most. People who career politicians professionally ignore. People Hillary Clinton's policies will not do anything for.

Hillary's anti-poverty program is nonexistent, Obama's shows a true understanding of the problems facing our neediest citizens.

Such as JFK and Clinton. Illusions, yeah, whatever.

124. And it is significant that "The Idolmaker" is a movie from the LAST century...
:)
A true story:
I actually really liked the movie when I saw it a number of times back in the early 80s (for some reason it was a cable staple)
However, last year my wife and I watched it. Her first viewing and my first viewing in 25 years. After it was over, my wife turned to me and said, "I don't know why you were always touting that movie, it's really not that good" And she was right.
Sometimes the past really isn't that good when examined in the cold light of today. A lesson there?

Ray Sharkey was a damn fine actor, though:)

129. I believe 1980. I haven't watched it in about 15 years
so there might be something to what you're saying. All I know is that for such an underhyped movie, I really enjoyed it, maybe more so because I used to be part of the rock scene in my younger days with a band and all that. :)

155. "___"has been there, done it. Done what?
Joe Biden has been there, done it.
John Edwards has been there, done it
Hillary Clinton has been there, done it.
Bill Richardson has been there, done it
Dennis Kucinich has been there, done it.
Chris Dodd has been there, done it.

What is it they actually did? Is that why everything has been such a mess since long before Barack Obama came along. It's time for CHANGE. Not more of the same.

158. Illusion is what politics are all about.
HRC isn't as good at creating them as Barack.

All this "Cult of personality" and "Illusion" crap is an attempt to fix that by making people suspicious of his prodigious talent as a politician.

Unfortunately for the HRC camp this isn't 900 CE, and most of the people who beleive in witches are reliable republican votes.
