...due to low population, demographics, and so forth.

Can we stop? NOW? It's simply the hangover from 2000 talking. Dean proved in 2006 that we CAN win in nearly every state if we're not so quick to dismiss them as "Red" or "a place where nobody lives."

1. I agree. Not only does a good showing in a Red State draw
resources from their presidential campaign it also helps us get more reps and senators.

2. I'm from a gianourmous state that is constantly ignored.
I'm from a wing that is constantly ignored.

Do you hear me complaining?

Oops. Um.

7. I get your point too.
Lucky for us, the air has left the Republican fantasy world! It's almost vacuum-like, crushing external pressure, can't hold on, must press Jeb emergency button, can not reach, pressure, press, mulgh...

4. No, "we" (not me, but the people you were addressing) won't stop. I'll give you credit
for trying, as many people have tried here at DU, but as much as we may try, the vitriol will continue.

But thanks anyway for asking for some reason.

6. I like taking stands, whether they have an effect or not.
Maybe I'm just easily distracted from the work I should be doing. :hi:

10. And I admire you for doing that. Somebody has to, and I usually run out of the energy
it takes to make a point and defend it for the life of a post.

Not much fun being old, but it sure beats the alternative.

5. Yea-aahhhh! I agree. We must compete everywhere.
If you're not there in place, you can't catch that wave when it comes.

11. There were literally DOZENS of threads yesterday that went something like this--
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 05:56 PM by Bicoastal
"Barack only wins Red States, black states(!), and other places that Hillary shouldn't be worried about, because they'll go to the GOP in November. What's the big deal?" Hello? Winning a state IS a big deal to the Democrats who live there, even if somewhere like Alaska pales in comparison to California and NY.

Of course, to be fair, Obama people said similar things when Hillary won Nevada...

ON EDIT--when people pointed out that Minnesota, Connecticut, Washington, etc. were neither Red nor particularly black, the posters changed it to "Barack MOSTLY wins..."

9. Look at Maine.
Who woulda thunk we'd have any power at all up here in the northeast corner of the nation? Close races mean important races, in even the most random places.

14. they only way you win Red states is by becoming more conservative
I'd rather have a Democrat which represents my personal beliefs than feels they have to moderate their beliefs to win the support of the idiots that populate Red states like mine. Winning red states is a hollow victory if all it means is we turn out more of these repugnant Yellow Dog Democrats like Zell Miller.

15. False characterization of many red state Dems
I've seen this tired meme brought up far too often here. The Democrats I know and the ones I caucused with have nothing to apologize for to anyone regarding their beliefs. These are not people hedging between Reagan/Gingrich "values" or true progressiveness.

16. I think that is the problem...
the way it has always been, is the way it will always be. Why would anyone consider that the 19-29 year olds would come out an actually vote for their future? Why would anyone consider that this country is going over the cliff, and people might be willing to trade in their label for a shot at hitting the brakes? Why would anyone consider that the record breaking numbers of people turning out to vote, in state after state, might be something more than a Karl Rove ploy?
