Here's why it would make no sense for Edwards to endorse Clinton... |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 05:50 PM by Bread and Circus
1.) His supporters broke for Obama in subsequent races and nationally in the polls. How can he go against his own people? 2.) Edwards was a member of the DLC, but he changed course and fundamentally rejected its premises. Clinton is still a leader of the DLC. How can he say it's the "people vs. the corporations" then throw his support behind Hillary, Inc. ? 3.) His wife supports Obama (so I've read). It seems to me she is his bedrock moral compass. How in God's name could he tip it the other way? If my wife had metastatic cancer and her second choice for President behind me was Obama, I'd have to be a cold soul to go against her. 4.) Clinton is the big money candidate. A poster girl for secrecy, covert deals, multi-million dollar quid pro quo exchanges. She won't even reveal her tax returns, not to mention her stand up for disclosure of her earmark deals. 5.) She won't swear off and disavow lobbyist influence in Washington. 6.) Her chief Political adviser is Mark Penn. He is adversarial to all that John Edwards has come to stand for. 7.) John's come clean on the war. He admitted it was a mistake. Clinton hasn't and still takes a hawkish stance. He wanted the troops out asap. She won't commit to a deadline.
I just can't believe that Edwards would endorse Clinton.

5. Me Either--And I Doubt that Hillary Would Make Him an Irresistible Offer, Either |

It's just not the Clinton style. They go for the irresistible (or at least, the low-hanging fruit), they don't give it away.

8. If JRE endorses Clinton, I'll be dumbstruck. |
|
I can't imagine he'd put ambition above principle.
I don't want to imagine such a thing.
Regardless, HRC will never get my vote, endorsement or no.

10. If he endorses Obama I'll have no further interest in this race |
|
I've watched my preferred candidates drop by the wayside one by one until the only choices left to me were Clinton and Obama. Prior to this I was an Edwards supporter and if he backs Obama that would be the final straw. It will be interesting, though, in the months to come to observe the hue and cry when the Little Red Riding Hoods around here discover that the man to whom they delivered the picnic basket wasn't at all the person they believed him to be.
After some 35 hard-fought years of being a Democratic activist, poll volunteer, working on voter registration, hiking through the mountains to reach voters, driving across country to be at Camp Casey... I'm done.

The only person with the experience and clout to actually follow through on campaign promises and make them a reality. The only person who can and does command the immediate respect of leaders around the world. The one person who can hit the ground running and who I trust will protect the rights of women and insure those via future appointments to the Supreme Court. And yes, the only person who has already had all her dirty laundry hung out for all to see and has weathered the worst of what Washington can throw at her, including years of villification by the right wing. That person is Hillary Clinton.
Oh, for years I've witnessed incredibly hateful attacks upon Hilliary Clinton by the likes of Limbaugh and O'Reilly and their disgusting ilk, but I never in my wildest dreams expected to see the same from members of my own party. Never would I have expected to witness such glee in the destruction and humiliation of one of the most accomplished women EVER in American politics. It's a shameful spectacle and one in which I want no part.

12. MY WISH... John Edwards Please DON'T Endorse! They DID You Dirty... |
|
BOTH of them and all THE POWER they have behind them. Stand up and JUST SAY NO!!!!
You have many supporters here who won't vote for anyone but you!
But REALITY is what it is, and I suppose it's difficult for him to "not endorse." It IS his career, but since it's just me.... I say "read my hand!"

13. This would shock me more than him dropping out |
|
It is the bedrock of his message -- Change vs Status Quo.
If he endorses her, it will unwind everything he has worked for.

16. I can't see Edwards endorsing |
|
HC, not even if she offers him the VP and Supreme Court. Anyway the VP spot is most likely to go Evans Bayh who is on her short list, and Bayh is a hawk vis-a-vis MidEast, possibly, HC's faustian bargain.. I also thinks that Edwards' endorsement of HC would not be compatible with his vision of his future if he is still thinking of the WH or Supreme Court. HC must have come up with a BIG offer given that her campaign is tanking.

18. There is little point in Edwards endorsing somebody before Tuesday |
|
hopefully it will be on Thursday or Friday, and for Obama, so he can have some momentum for the Wisconsin primaries.
