I am an Edwards Democrat
An Edwards supporter sent this to me.

A vote for Edwards on 2/12 is not wasted

It's been a long week for Edwards supporters, and many of you may have already moved on to a new candidate. I want to offer my own perspective and some thoughts on our upcoming Virginia Presidential Primary on Tuesday, Feb. 12th.

John Edwards ran an honest and issue driven campaign.

From his announcement in the Lower 9th of New Orleans, he made sure that this campaign would be about more than winning a race -- it was and is about raising the level of discourse in our Party.

After six years in Washington and the 2004 campaign, John Edwards spent time reflecting on what was wrong and what was right -- on his part in it all, and what to do next. When he reemerged from that period of self-reflection, he did so with a stronger sense of self and a greater determination to stay true to his own core beliefs and those he saw as central to the principles of the Democratic Party.

John Edwards made the campaign for our Party's Presidential nomination one of bold Democratic ideas.

Universal health care, a climate change strategy actively supported by Friends of the Earth, a strong and substantive economic stimulus package reflecting both economic justice and a long-term strategy, a program for a green economy that builds bridges between two diverse groups in the party--labor and environmentalists, a rural recovery plan recognizing that most of this country doesn't live in urban areas. The other candidates wisely followed his lead.

In this campaign, John Edwards also spoke for the voiceless.

The people like James Lowe who lived speechless for 50 years because of lack of money and adequate health care. The people in a small South Carolina town that doesn't have running water or regular electricity. The people in a Cleveland suburb devastated by foreclosures. The family of a beautiful teenage girl who died while the insurance company argued over whether or not to cover a life-giving transplant.

John Edwards spoke for the 200,000 veterans of our armed services who are homeless, for the thousands of people in New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast still without homes to return to, for you and me and everyone in America who wants to leave a better world for the generations to come.

I am an Edwards Democrat.

When I first became interested in John Edwards' candidacy in 2006, I learned he was focusing on issues around poverty and stengthening the middle class, about making college affordable and ensuring that the labor movement is strong. What I didn't realize is that, in the John Edwards campaign, I would find that marriage of politics and issues and values that resonates so deeply in my own life.

With the suspension of his campaign this week, Edwards returned to where he started -- the Lower 9th of New Orleans. Standing in the midst of a slowly-rebuilding Musicians' Village and just before he and his whole family would participate in a Habitat for Humanity project there, Edwards once again reminded us that

"...we, as citizens and as a government, have a moral responsibility to each other, and what we do together matters. We must do better, if we want to live up to the great promise of this country that we all love so much."

I am an Edwards Democrat.

We began this campaign together looking to what we can do today to make a better tomorrow.

On February 12th, I will cast my vote in the Virginia Presidential Primary for John Edwards because I believe that his campaign, our campaign, has stood for what is good and right about the Democratic Party and the American people.

In the general election, you vote for the one you want to win; in the primary, you have the opportunity to vote based on who you believe represents the best of our Party. Your vote in the primary can send a message to Party leaders and the other candidates.

By voting for Edwards on February 12th, I am saying that the issues and values Edwards brought to this campaign are ones I want my Party to stand for and to honor. By voting for Edwards, I am sending the message that these issues and the policy proposals he advocated must be part of our Party's future.

I hope you will consider the message your vote will send. I believe that casting your vote for John Edwards can send a powerful message.

Join me in standing up as an Edwards Democrat.

Other One Corps chapters around the country are continuing to meet and operate, to volunteer and come together to participate in campaigns for progressive candidates standing up for the same issues and answers as John Edwards. They are also continuing the unique blend of politics and social action that John Edwards represents so well.

1. Right on Jackson_dem, our votes do count.
I voted for John Edwards on Super Tuesday, along with many thousands of Edwards supporters. Our voices are heard. We are the core of populists in America and we will continue to support the populist platform everywhere.

John has a few cards to play in this yet, and we are backing that power.

6. My Signs Are Still Up & Bumper Stickers Too... I Have Posters Also
and I'm Edwards forever! I know many here think it's ridiculous to "not" vote for the nominee, but the depth of my loyalty is very sincere. I have other reasons that make easier to vote for him in the GE. One of the first is that I live in Florida and this state has become synonymous with either voter fraud or faulty machines!

Then there is the fact that I live in Sarasota County... the famous 13th District that not only had to endure two terms of Katherine "Cruella" Harris, but also seems to have her "clone" as the Supervisor of Elections in this county. This is a woman that seems impervious to anything but her agenda. While I've stopped trying to engage her, my attempts in the past have always left me shaking my head. Much like so much others here see what BUSHC0 has gotten away with.

I can not PROVE that my vote was never counted nor can I PROVE any fraud, but my intuition tells me something wasn't quite "kosher!" I've never hidden where I live, and I'm sure my name is on several lists somewhere. During the 2006 election, my daughter and I both had funny sounds in the background when we talked on the phone. They stopped after the election. In the beginning I thought it was just atmospheric interference, but the timing of the noise and it's cessation seemed odd. Still I have no PROOF, but the thought lingers. Both my daughter and I had made it known that we felt something was wrong with the machines here before election day in 2006. I could go into more detail about all of this, but don't feel it's neccesary... you get the drift.

So it's easier for me to stand up for John Edwards and vote for him in the GE. This state doesn't seem like it's going to be pivotal in the GE. Whatever they decide to do about it is still up in the air, and the outcome probably won't solve the problem, nor will it be helpful to Florida's already damaged image. Right now it seems Clinton won Florida... who knows?

I'm just standing up and casting my vote for the one I truly feel was the best candidate! This has nothing to do with being a sore loser, but has everything to do with the fact that I'm sick of having to "go along to get along!" There has only been one other time I sat out an election but even then my vote wouldn't have counted. The winner won by a landslide, and it wasn't a Democrat!

THIS TIME... it's simply because I refuse to be manipulated.

3. I've been thinking of doing this too, but am concerned if I do, that HRC will get in. I'm upset JE
hasn't endorsed someone to give us some idea of what he thinks. He of all knows the others well and should have an idea of who comes closest to his values. As an Edwards supporter and donater, I heard from his campaign often about the issues. Nothing since.

I don't know what to do. Have to figure it out overnight since Tuesday's VA primary.

Why don't we just let the global population vote on it... then she'd win for sure. She's 80% favored by Europe, I hear.

7. Jackson Dem Is Correct... Many Of Us Are Still Committed To Working
for Edwards and his issues. There is still a movement going on and many of us are behind that movement. There's still time between now and November. I don't know what Edwards is thinking, but I'm very glad that he didn't just turn around and endorse someone right away. I may be reading too much into this, but the silence may be significant of something else.

I've already said it, I don't WANT him to endorse, but that's just what I WANT! He's a very intelligent man and knows he's made mistakes in the past that he apologized for. He just might not want to make another "wrong decision!" JMHO!

11. Yup. Let's make sure we keep OneCorps alive
Let's make it a grassroots vehicle for local change. We can each play a bigger role in effecting change in our city, county, and legislative and House district that we could at the presidential level.

22. RFK was the candidate of my lifetime & represented everything i believed in
until John Edwards. if anyone carries RFK's mantle, it is John Edwards. he was the only candidate running in this election that would have made a difference, not just for me, but for all americans. and anyone who was willing to work & work hard to elect RFK, i feel, would be working, & working hard for John Edwards.

Obama & Clinton can only dream of being as great as RFK. and i remember RFK well too.

16. Hi Vadem
John got over 4500 votes in Virginia today. Catchawave just posted a thread about it in the Edwards group. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=257x7035 You should come hang out with us there sometime.

I'm waiting to hear how many votes he got in Maryland. I know of at least two. My husband said he voted for him because he was afraid I would poison his food if he didn't. Smart man.
