Obama Supporters: Admit You Want Clinton in the Senate
Dear Obama supporters,

I have turned a blind eye to several attacks that has gone over the line against Sen. Clinton, mainly because I just haven't got enough time in the day to deal with it all. But I hope that you will all understand that you would be better served by putting things in perspective. Hillary Clinton may seem like an awful choice for President, but she will be a welcome force in the Senate for years to come.

As an Obama supporter, I beg you to use your judgment in when is a legitimate concern about her candidacy and when is it an attack just for its own sake.

Obama's policy platform is pretty amazing, but I am very surprised by how few threads I see exploring his progressive positions. Of course, I post some now and then only to have them disappear in the smear that has become DU.

I urge you to join in bringing people to table, rather than just pissing people off. Obama is an altogether decent person, and his positions are thoroughly progressive (although he rhetorically frames them as moderate). Why would you want to convince people NOT to vote for him because you'd rather win some knuckleheaded argument?

We are the people we are waiting for. Let's start by noticeably changing the tone around here.

1. Oh sure
I think she would be great in the senate - perhaps even be able to achieve more than she would in the WH. Although I can sort of see her as a member of the Supreme court too, but I don't know enough about the legal profession to know if that would be taken seriously. Maybe sh'es too political to hold a senior judgeship without being ccused of bias. all the time.

3. I'd love to see her as Senate majority leader
I think she'd be great in that role. Although Hillary as Senate majority leader during an Obama presidency might lead to WH-Senate friction, unless he gets elected president and then uses his post to make that happen for her.

12. No matter how this turns out, I'd love to see the nominee reach out...
... to the other Senator, and form a real legislative alliance. "I'll support you as Majority Leader with all my will and fortitude."

No matter if it's Clinton or Obama at the top, I'd love to see our next President support the election of Obama or Clinton as next Majority Leader.

I like this scenario so much better than the Veep Scenario.

5. Sure
As long as we can put some accountability on earmarks and real lobbying reform back on the table.

7. I admit that freely
I don't have a problem with Clinton, per se. I just prefer Obama. I believe that they can both be effective leaders.

8. When people pretend to know what's in your heart
but don't, it gets a little hard to deal with. They can attack my candidate but I'll bite back on the personal.

9. Dr. F, I totally agree.
And that means not saying things like "But they started it first!" or "But they do it more!". etc.

We need to just stop entirely.

Of course I want Hillary Clinton in the Senate. We love her. She is terrific!

We just support Obama for our own reasons. Most of us know that we cannot affect the election -hell, we cann't even affect each other's opinions much here on one little site.

So let's just lay off the attacks and lay off responding to the attacks. I think most of us have done that, others have not.

Just talk to your friends, family and community about your support for your candidate and do not be nasty here on DU.

Respond politely to threads that seem to be open-minded, truly looking for discussion. Do not engage or confront. It is counterproductive.

10. She's no Barbara Boxer. I'd rather have liberals in the Senate.
I agree with you in principle, though. The problem with the Clintons is their sense of privilege that seems to have spread to their supporters.

I don't feel obligated to support Hillary Clinton. She is obligated to earn the trust and support of the electorate. And, ditto for Obama.

11. Nope. I campaigned against her in '06
and will do so again in '12. No DLC member is to be trusted with public office.

DLC delende est.

13. Admit...
Absolutely. HRC is a brilliant woman who I hope will be in the Senate for years to come. The fact that I prefer someone else for President doesn't change that.
