On the lighter side, who thought that Michelle Obama inadvertently outed Oprah on LK Live? |
|
It was pretty funny.
Conversation went something like this (paraphrasing)
LK: You've become friends with Oprah through all this?
MO: She's a remarkable woman.
LK: Have you become close?
MO: With her and Gayle both. They're terrific.
Not her and Steadman. Her and Gayle.
Larry blinked a little and then moved on.

|
And they also work together. Oprah talks about Gayle a lot. I didn't hear it as an "outing" at all.

27. I think it would matter, actually. |
|
Some people would be pissed off--like they "own" Oprah and she has to be what they want her to be on the tee vee.
Some people would be overjoyed--she'd be a very successful, black role model for gay youth and even those gay people who are older.
Some people would be amused at her keeping such a secret for so long.
Some people would say "AH HA!!!" I KNEW it!!!!
And of course, some people wouldn't give a shit one way or another.
But the media would be all over it for at least a week, maybe more, depending upon how the information was obtained (a self-declaration, a 'compromising' video, an assertion by a former paramour...). If Oprah outed herself and went on "the rounds" of the talk shows she could keep that ball in the air for a month or more, easily.

Gayle has 2 or 3 kids and has been on Oprah's show, shilling for dates. Now they're an item? Whatever. And whatever! Who cares?

The idea of Oprah and Gayle being SO's doesn't alarm or bring up any negative connotations for many of us.

We had 7 friggin ballot propositions. LA County had 8!
Of the two left standing, I am leaning slightly toward Hillary. Both are far better than what is on the other side of the aisle.

29. Well, Steadman was hooked up with...ARMSTRONG WILLIAMS!!! |
|
In a business venture, mind you: Because of his willingness to carry water for Right-wing conservatives, Armstrong has been richly rewarded. The Graham Williams Group, formed with Steadman Graham, Oprah Winfrey’s longtime beau, has had an array of well-paying corporate clients. Until now, Armstrong has been a media darling, appearing regularly on CNN and other networks that routinely ignore more thoughtful and credible African-Americans. Conservatives make sure he gets invited – and paid – to give speeches to sympathetic groups.

Now that's cute. :)
I think it's a sad sign of the poisoned waters on DU that anyone would think your post was some kind of backhanded attack on Obama. Personally, I'd be thrilled if Oprah came out. I don't think it's completely out of the realm of possibility, either. And hey, why couldn't she be with both Steadman *and* Gayle? Some people have no imagination.
