Making a mountain out of a mole-hill election process..
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 02:21 AM by SoCalDem
• Total Delegates* - This number includes pledged delegates and superdelegates

• There are currently 4,049 total delegates to the Democratic National Convention, including 3,253 pledged delegates and 796 superdelegates.

The total number of delegate votes needed to win the nomination is 2,025.

It SHOULD BE:

3253
- 366 (michigan & fla)
______

2887

divided by 2 + 1 = 1443 VOTED/pledged delegates..= WINNER..

It's all so 5th-grader-ishly simple..

The already, nearly, 60-40 split of all the elections builds in fairness and makes it almost impossible to run away with it..

No "tie" is possible, so no "sooooper-dooooper delegates are even needed)..

1. I agree. The solution is for the national party to meet and rule that superdelegates cannot vote

in the nomination process, unless they otherwise hold a convention seat earned through the pledged delegate process in place. This makes it a horse race with a finite number of delegates in play, which we all can see and know. The race finishes when the last primary or caucus occurs.

Michigan and Florida should not be in the nomination process at all. They can send delegates that can't vote for the nomination.

3. Agreed. Total the state and territory delegates, not counting Mich and Fla
Then divide the total, add one, and there's your nominee number.
