Since Impeachment is unlikely, which Candidate would "Prosecute the Criminals"? |
|
At this point it is becoming clear, with each passing admission of (War)crimes, the mis-administration is prepared to get away with it all. Even Torture doesn't seem to motivate Pelosi to give a damn.
We must keep pushing for Impeachment, but also develop a Plan B.
Which Democratic Candidate would facilitate a prosecution of the War Criminals? The International Community is watching, and they want to let us take care of our mess.
Who will do it?

Should the winning candidate be a Dem, they will have a short "honeymoon" period during which time they can push through some very important legislation and appointments. Dragging Bush and Cheney through a prosecution would consume the new presidency to the exclusion of everything else. Sad but true.

17. And the Nancy Pelosi tidalwave of legislation |
|
proves your point.
Or not.
There can be no business as usual, because the International Court is going to try them. Why? because this admin has a record of human rights abuses that has single handedly forced me to re-evaluate Pinochet.
Without due process for these crimes and their full disclosure, we will be like post-Pol Pot Cambodia. And a modern nation cannot be so sequestered and be vital. Ask the Soviets if you don't believe me.

3. Sadly, I think neither. |
|
I don't think either would "facilitate" it. If there was strong leadership in Congress going after it, with the people behind it, I don't think either one would stand in the way, however.

But my feeling is there won't be too much movement there without a massive clean up. Even after that, there will be judges not interested in justice due to their loyaties and ideology. I believe if there is going to be any justice for the American people, it will have to come from the House.

27. Impeachment only removes from office. |
|
Once Bush and friends are out of office, impeachment is no longer relevant. It then becomes a matter of investigate and prosecute. Unfortunately, neither Dem candidate is going to be inclined to do that. Obama is more concerned with uniting. Most likely he would regard prosecution of a Repub ex-Prez as a dividing issue. Clinton, I think would be more likely. But, she hasn't said anything, that I know of, to indicate that she would pursue it. I would bet that in January, there will be pardons galore issued from the Oval Office.
Can Bush pardon himself? I seem to recall reading that he actually could. Certainly not in the spirit of the Constitution. But, technically not illegal?

and it makes me wonder what the hell is really going on. Not only is impeachment off the table, it would seem that there's really not much that is on the table that we would really like to have.

and Pelosi and company are trying their best to boot him out of Congress. To my mind, THEY need strong primary challenges and need to be booted out in the primary so we have GOOD Dems to take their places.

scenario and I were going to be inaugurated next January...I'd have the US Marshall's arrest bush and cheny right off the Capitol area that I was giving the speech from. I'm sure that the interim between getting elected and the actual swearting in, I could get attorneys to come up w/150 charges w/o even breaking a sweat...:D
Just to make things a little more interesting, I'd ask the Justice Dept to freeze their assets until a complete investigation took place...I'd make them destitute...

How many times is this going to come up?
Bush will stay the course, pardon Cheney and a million henchmen in December, and go on to a profitable uninvestigated retirement.
