I just voted in Washington DC (Some observations)
I live on Capitol Hill, and it only took 10 minutes (fro start to finish)
to vote this morning. Our polling place is an elementary school, and our
election workers are helpful and organized.

There was a steady stream of people going in and out of the building this morning,
and about 100 voters inside the gymnasium/cafeteria when we got there (about 8:30 AM).
The PTA always sells pastries and coffee, which is nice. Today, the kids were selling school
valentines. We donated a dollar to them and asked them to a kid who might not otherwise
get one.

Sidebar: DC is about 94% Dems. Yea, us!

Ours is a closed primary, and after you sign in, you get a blue card if you're a Dem,
and a pink (or yellow-- I forget) if you're a Repub. There were only blue cards
stacked up where you pick up your ballot, so it appears that NO Repubs and No
OTHER party were voting in my precinct this morning. At least, not yet.

All we had to do on the ballot was connect the front end and the back end of an arrow
next to the presidential candidate's name with a pencil. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

Of course, I'd like to watch TV news today as the votes get tallied, but...

COMCAST CABLE IS OUT AGAIN.

It was also out on Super Tuesday. Coincidence? I'm beginning to wonder. Comcast told us
that this one is part of a "random outage in our neighborhood." Interesting, because we also
have Comcast internet. You'll notice I'm not having internet trouble. Ahem, Comcast.

4. Comcast is the worst cable provider I have ever used.
They bought out Adelphia and ever since they provide the worst cable connection I have ever experienced. It goes out at least once a week. Bunch of incompetent idiots running and ruining the company. The Adelphia Company executives were crooks but at least they could keep the cable on. Now we got crooks and incompetence. Typical bureaucratic, monopolistic, corrupt corporation providing a bumbling service. But their billing department never goes out.

Ok, I'm done ranting. Go back to your regularly scheduled program.

5. That's my old neighborhood!
Wonder if it's the same polling place, too--over at Eastern Market?

I love LA, but still get homesick for DC! :hi:

8. The grade school at the corner of D & 12th SE.
We're 3 1/2 blocks from Eastern Market.

Here's the map. The school is the entire block between D & E Streets SE.

7. Apparently Obama was at Eastern Market metro with Fenty
One of my coworkers got to shake his hand! But I think she said they were leaving as she got on the train. I wish he had picked my metro stop...maybe he'll be at others. You might check out Capitol South or L'Enfant.

10. Eastern Market is where everyone meets & greets
Remember the great "filling station/ Dems in hybrids" media event deal last year?

That was at our gas station.

11. question..
displacedtexan, are you a teacher? I know someone really well in DC who is from texas, and teaches there (and is somewhat active in Dem politics I think). I know it would be a huge long shot if it was you, but thought I'd ask.
