I just voted in the Maryland Primary - forty minute wait. woo hoo! |
|
Prince George's County but fairly white neighborhood and the line snaked the length of the school cafeteria where we voted at 7:30 am. Lots of touchscreen voting machines but alas, only two election judges checking people in. We need electronic voting cards - swipe your card at the door, the judge sees your picture pop up to verify that you are you - go straight to the machine, put in your pin number, and vote. Nevertheless, I didn't mind waiting to vote for Obama. No problems with the touch screen.

5. I believe Maryland is going to paper ballots with optical scanners after this year. |
|
I am more comfortable with that. I still think we should do the electronic voting card, though. People who did not have their cards could still do a manual check in. And there is no reason it should cost the voter anything - that gets around the "poll tax" issue.

3. Same situation in N. Virginia |
|
I had about a 30 minute wait. The slow point was the check-in book. Virginia's open primary slows things down as they check both books in case you've already voted for the other party. Because of this, there were never more than 2 people voting at 5 machines.
I had no problem waiting but the line will get a lot longer later in the day. Somewhat bad weather coming, mostly sleet and rain might influence turnout.
I was proud to cast my vote for Obama!

7. took me about 2 min, they gave my girlfriend some trouble about not haveing her ID with her..... |
|
They said it was the law, that you had to had an ID. I was like "HOLD UP, the law says if this is not your first time voting, then you do not need an ID." After a couple of min, somebody who knew what they were talking about set the record straight and she was able to vote. This was at 6AM, so it is good that this happened, now the workers are clear what the law is.
