Our local polling place is having crappy weather, but we voted
We vote at the local middle school down the street. There are four precincts that vote there, six at the high school next door, and four more at the elementary school across the street. Our particular precinct had a few people at the voting machines, but no line to register when we got there. The school, however, had a good amount of traffic, even at 10.45 am when we voted.

The weather is cold and gray. There was a nice dusting of confectionery sugar snow this morning - maybe a quarter inch - on lawns and cars and at the edges of the road. But some schools closed (none here) and there was salt on the roads and light traffic. A snow shower comes through every now and again.

This is the also the last year for those damned Diebold machines in Maryland. They're bringing back our paper ballot optical scanners from this point forward. When we were signing in, I pointed to the registration machine and said to the volunteer "I bet NO one will miss these awful things." She laughed and agreed heartily, as did the few other polls workers nearby.

I made a similar crack to the guy who was guiding voters to a machine. I said something about a lack of confidence in my vote being counted and about "them stealing the presidency one last time". He laughed and said the machines would do whatever he told them to do ..... then quickly said they have never *appeared* to have a problem in our precinct, with heavy emphasis on 'appeared'. It seems to me everyone will be quite happy to have them gone.

When asked my party affiliation (to get my proper Excel spreadsheet ..... er ...... 'ballot') I said, I'm one of the Democrats who are pissed off and not going to take it any more! That allowed me to read faces and see who was a Dem and who was Repub.

The whole process took maybe 15 minutes, including driving time.

Sparkly and I always try to have fun wherever we go. We had fun this morning. I hope everyone who can goes out and votes. The weather is supposed to get rainy this afternoon. I hope that doesn't depress turnout. No matter the outcome of today's primary, I want our side to show HUGE numbers. I want the Repubics scared shitless going into the general elections.

What? ..... who did we vote for?

Nunna yer bidnis!

Ayup!

From the OP: When asked my party affiliation (to get my proper Excel spreadsheet ..... er ...... 'ballot') I said, I'm one of the Democrats who are pissed off and not going to take it any more! That allowed me to read faces and see who was a Dem and who was Repub.

6. Maryland Here Also
Voted just after 9 a.am. and was surprised to see only a couple of Obama signs and no live bodies hoisting them at the church hosting our precinct. Light turnout there and also another polling place, the local library.

We expected manic rah-rahs after the crack-of-dawn live phone call we received asking for my young daughter by name and reminding her to vote, courtesy of Barack Obama. We both got a good laugh out of that, but it goes to show that his grass-roots organization here was stronger and apparently geared toward Dem youth.

(Light turnout there and also another polling place, the local library.)

From Hillary, an e-mail this morning, arriving after I returned from the polls. You know, it's going to be a bitter pill to swallow if she loses largely due to the superiority of his campaign machine (and this goes from branding/message soup to precinct worker nuts). Yes, folks, I am feeling more like myself now that I have done the deed. And I'll sigh remembering that it was really Al Gore I wanted all along.

The in-processing at the polls went more smoothly than ever, but the Diebold machines (and this is our fourth or fifth time) stank up the place, smelling like burning wires. Several other voters and I shared some gallows humor over our votes going up in flames later when the machines experienced overload.

So we shall see.

7. Not sharing? H2, all that after I told you about bangers and Trader Joes
Kidding....I am sure you and Sparkly did the right thing for you.

Now if I can just make up my own mind...I swear it will be at the ballot box.

:)

9. Nope ..... not gunna share
Besides, I had to vote for the one I dislike the least.

Sparkly had to make a similar choice. Once again, we proved to be of like minds at the end.

10. I knew you would not...that's why I was kidding
I am in the same pickle you guys were before this AM...I have until March 4.

Both are good choices, I am starting to lean one way, but I think I need to stop lurking in GD-P to have better perspective - it is a positive sewer some days and sometimes some people are so nasty it makes me move one direction or another just because I get pissed, then I have to do some deep breathing and step back to where I was.

:)

11. Now THAT is the truth
In the case of BOTH candidate support groups, when they weigh in on anything I tend to go the opposite way just because they piss me off.
