If NBC Had Thrown A $40,000 Fundraiser For Hillary
would she be making such a fuss about MSNBC's "pattern of behavior"? Now I hear Sen. Clinton has praised Fox News and slammed MSNBC. Chris Matthews is no doubt a jerk, but praising Fox News??? Well there's a reason.

On June 5, Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the News Corporation, gave her presidential bid $2,300. A few weeks later, his son, James R. Murdoch, chief executive of British Sky Broadcasting in London, gave $3,400. Altogether, NewsCorp/Fox executives gave at least $40,000 to the Clinton campaign.

Not so much coming from the folks at GE http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com/neighbors.php?type=emp&employer=General+Electric

Murdoch is the symbol of media conglomeration and the owner of Republican mouthpieces like Fox News, Weekly Standard and the New York Post. He and Hillary have lately conducted a public courtship. Last month, Hillary attended the 10th anniversary party for Fox News in Washington, where the presidential contender schmoozed Murdoch and Fox chair Roger Ailes. According to the Financial Times, Bill Clinton will address the summer conference of Murdoch's media colossus, News Corp.

It's actually quite fitting that President Clinton address News Corp, since he helped build that conglomerate -- through his Telecommunications "Reform" Act of 1996, a corrupt measure largely drafted by lobbyists for the media industry as they lavished campaign cash on politicians of both parties. The law loosened regulations constraining News Corp's growth and raised caps on how many TV stations Murdoch and others could own. Murdoch immediately bought up new stations. Clear Channel expanded from 40 radio stations to 1,200; right wing Sinclair Broadcasting expanded from 11 TV stations to 60.

By having Murdoch host her fund raiser, Hillary Clinton seems to be signaling to Murdoch that while Democratic Party activists have mobilized in recent years against media conglomeration and policies that favor and subsidize media giants, those are not concerns of hers. What does Hillary want from Murdoch? Obviously, softer coverage from Fox and elsewhere. She certainly doesn't need his help getting funds; she raised $6 million in the first three months of 2006. http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0510-20.htm

Hillary Slams MSNBC...Praises Fox?!?

The Hillary campaign recently took MSNBC reporter David Shuster (and MSNBC generally) to task for asking a guest on February 7th's "Tucker" program, "oesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?" MSNBC has suspended Shuster for his remarks.

Tonight, the Politico's John Harris asked Clinton for her thoughts on the situation during an interview that aired on Washington, D.C.'s local ABC affiliate WJLA:

Clinton said that her staff had sent her "some independent study" "which seemed to suggest that" "in terms of the fairness of the coverage," Fox News Channel has treated her campaign more fairly than MSNBC.http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC/television/hillary_slams_msnbcpraises_fox_77235.asp

4. Murdoch is trying to play Clinton
I won't speculate on whether she's buying it or not. Murdoch hasn't had an 11th hour change of heart over the Clintons, he is simply remembering how good they were for his business back in the 90's.

5. Murdoch
Rupert Murdoch has switched alliances since contributing $2300 to Hillary's campaign.

As expected, his newspapers are openly endorsing McCain.

6. The president and CEO of GE has contributed to HRC's campaign
Jeffrey Immelt. Altogether, it would appear that the total given to HRC by employees of GE approaches the amount give to HRC by employees of News Corp.

And Peter Chernin, the president of News Corp has donated to both HRC and Obama.

So I wouldn't leap to too may conclusions. You'll only fall on your ass.

7. More Clinton-bashing with zero facts!
The OP suggests that Hillary likes FOX because they raise money for her and hates MSNBC because -- well, because they don't?

This is an attempt to slander Hillary by tying her to Murdoch. (Sort of like Obama opponents want to tie him to Rezco.) The difference is that Obama DID get into bed with Rezco and Hillary HAS NOT gotten into bed with Murdoch.

And she isn't treating MSNBC worse than FOX for any reason other than an MSNBC reporter referred to her daughter as a whore and to her as someone who would prostitute her daughter. FOX didn't do that.

It's a weird thing when FOX treats a Democrat more fairly than the other networks. That only happens with one democrat -- Hillary -- and it is only possible because the rest of the MSM hates the Clintons even worse than FOX does. FOX doesn't treat her fairly either, but they are less vituperative than the network heads.

8. Enter Into The 21st Century
pimp, pimping, pimped - it's slang, commonly used by all sorts of people.

Aren't we always referring to the political pundits as "Media Whores? How many times on this site have I seen people, including myself refer to the male & female so-called-journalists as "whoring for The Bushies"?

Are Norah O'Donnell or Andrea Mitchell actual "whores"?

9. They are whores?
In the cases you cite, the analogies fit. Some media types really have prostituted themselves to the Republican/neocon establishment.

In Hillary's case, Chelsea was pitching her mother's case to superdelegates, without even being paid a salary. Hillary is being Swiftboated by the corporate media and you are willing to tolerate such inappropriate slander? Shame on you.
