2. And who is he voting for in the GE?
Because if he's not going to grit his teeth and vote for Obama against McCain in the GE, it's completely meaningless... in fact, one could even say it's over-inflating Obama's numbers now.

8. If Hillary's the candidate, he obviously will.
Maybe there's a shot at his vote with Obama. I'll take a maybe over a definite no.

23. I agree.
I really don't understand why it is a problem. If someone hates Hillary enough to vote in a Democratic Primary just to vote AGAINST her... they sure as hell aren't voting for her in the General Election. If they cast a vote for Obama once, they might do so again, especially after they see Obama and McCain side by side on a debate stage.

19. Eugene Robinson (WaPo) explains why Obama appeals across parties
The Dr. Evil Dilemma

"Enough with the Dr. Evil routine. I think there's a simpler reason that so many Republicans speak admiringly of Barack Obama and say he would be the tougher candidate to run against. Obama disagrees with conservatives without demonizing them. He even invites Republicans to join him in building the post-partisan America he envisions."

14. neighbor
This just confirms what I've been saying all along: Hillary is despised throughout America, and there is no way in hell she could ever be elected. If she weren't so damn egotistical, she would see that herself, and would never have run for President.

Further, the Clinton years are not regarded as fondly by average Democrats as the media seem to imagine. The corporation-loving, free-trade policies of that time led to nothing but lost jobs and a lower standard of living for working class people. Sure, if you happened to be a yuppie techie, they were boom times, at least until the bubble burst. But for most of us, they were disastrous. We defended Bill against the absurd assaults from the right, and we were grateful to have a Democrat in office at all. But at the end of the day, the Clintons were not on our side then, and they won't be if they get into office again.

Bill was shielded from the impact of his policies by his personal charm, and resentment of the right's attacks on him. Hillary has no such shield, and all the anger about the legacy of those years is falling on her.

17. Shhh. Or they'll realize their mistake.
I'm wondering if some Republicans are realizing that:
1. McCain has the nomination locked up
2. This might be their only chance to "vote against" Hillary.

We've been trying to tell you. They will come out in primaries and register as a Dem just to make sure she is not on the ballot. They are doing us a favor, helping us dodge a bullet. You don't want them coming out like this in November do you?

22. My best friend switched to Dem and voted for Obama too.
He has been a registered Republican for a while, but has been fed up with Bush's crap and all the garbage coming from the GOP for a long time.

He's also not a Clinton lover.

But he got out there, registered as a Democrat on caucus day and voted for Obama.

That's what I like about Obama - he can bring in the Independents and moderate Republicans. And I haven't seen him sell out us progressives like Lieberman.

Seriously - he actually likes him, and so do a lot of moderates and even some Republicans.

I think that's one of Obama's talents that this country very badly needs - he has the capability to get to to take our hands from each other's throats and get us to work together on something genuinely useful.

problems of the last 8 years? Will elected Repubs love him as your friend does. I doubt it. We don't need another centrist. We need a progressive with some balls.

34. He's just as pissed as we are...
about the war, things like warrantless wiretapping and FISA, he understands the need for health care reform.

And you're not listening to me when I said that Obama was capable of reaching out to soon-to-be-former-Republicans and independents and bringing them to us without pulling a Lieberman and compromising on the important issues. Which candidate showed up at the Senate today to make a stand against telco immunity in FISA again?

32. People are genuinely tired of the same Bush/Clinton bullshit
Great smiley!

I think there is a real groundswell of folks that just want all the craziness to stop. If someone like Obama was a republican, you'd probably see similar results. It's time to get shit done, and it's going to take people from both sides of the aisle to do it. Scorched earth policies ultimately do no good for anyone.

37. I'm with ya
...Tired of Bush-Clinton-Bush, and (while I will vote for Hillary if she is the nom) I am an Obama supporter hoping for some substantive change and real progress.

Had Bill Clinton vetoed NAFTA, the Salvage Logging rider and the '96 Telecommunications Act, and thoroughly aired-out the Iran Contra scandal, and had Hillary sponsored and pushed-through some real progressive legislation during her time in the Senate (as well as substantively opposing * - and I mean leading filibusters), I would look much more favorably on another Clinton candidacy. But things being as they are, I am a lukewarm supporter at best. If she triangulates much more, I may get nauseous.

35. Plenty of Republicans hate McCain and will never vote for a Clinton....ever....
I have talked to many over the months that would easily vote for Obama. They don't even agree with him on many issues, but are SICK of the war, feel duped by Bush and actually don't listen to asshats like the Irish Trio of Repuglified Asshatisms.

It is going to be a landslide that makes the 1964 Johnson-Goldwater race look like nothing if Obama is the nominee.
