With Obama's win in VA, does Tim Kaine become the frontrunner for VP?
Personally, after tonight's victory, if I had to bet I'd bet that'd be the ticket. Southern governors are good luck, and Kaine would certainly help deliver Virginia again this November.

7. Jim Webb is the best VP for either candidate.
Webb fucking kicks ass. The only downside is his age. He's 62 now and would be almost 71 at the end of Obama's second term. Not a logical successor there.

I don't think Webb plays well nationally nor does he really comfort the base
I love having Webb as my senator, but he's a little on the edgy side.

If you want to bring in a Southerner who can a) help win a Southern state or two and b) not scare the hell out of the northeast, Kaine is a better choice. Or Bill Nelson.

I like Kaine because he only has one year left as governor anyway.

Although Kaine is a nice guy, a VP with stellar FP exp. would be better.

12. Webb is a little too loose-cannony for a Dem VP
Republicans can get away with crazy people as their VPs. It makes their base happy.

We can't.

37. Might Clark be free after the votes are in?
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 08:12 PM by app_farmer_rb
I know that Clark endorsed Hillary quite a while back, but once a nominee (i.e.- Obama) has the primaries wrapped up, couldn't Clark accept then?

I would hate to think that everyone who has endorsed Clinton withhold their skills from Obama. Right now, this country of ours needs all the hope, energy, and cooperation toward progress we can muster.

EDIT to add that Obama really needs a VP with foreign policy experience and the respect of the military. I think that Wes Clark would fit the bill ideally, and I also think his speaking style complements Obama's nicely. Richardson would also be a good choice.

He was with Obama since the start of the presidential campaign when people wrote him off. Obama will remember that.

He will be on a short list, no idea if he will or should get tapped but loyalty like that is pretty important. Especially given how important VA might be.

29. I would be interested in seeing a general on board
Zinny, Clark-esque, someone with real military and foreign policy experience but they also have to be real good campaigners and have a good grasp on the economy. Clark being in Clintons camp will knock him out of the running though.

34. I think Zinni is a silly suggestion. Does he know ANYTHING about politics, or policy?
Where does he stand on abortion and stem-cell research? What does he know about economics? It's as obvious as McCain picking Condi--"You've got a war hero? WE'VE got a war hero! You've got a black or a woman? WE'VE got a black woman!" I'd prefer to go with a tested politician, someone who knows how to fight back against smears and strategize and work with Congress--and foreign policy/national security experience would be great. I like Biden and Jack Reed.

and a two-year Senator? No, that's not gonna happen.

The only Senators who have any chance of being VP are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

they spent time visiting Vietnam together--he said Webb is hard to get along with, and not the most genial guy. I'm afraid he's not the right temperament for VP.

He's almost too valuable as Governor of a crucial swing state.

I have some inside information and if Virginians won't mind voting for Warner for both VP and Senator then he is going to be right at the top of their short list.
