The obviously, glaring flaw in the "not a blue state so it doesn't matter" horse shit.
First of all, I really loathe disingenuous support for a candidate. And when people who's candidate doesn't win certain states keep saying, "these states don't matter" when they would be saying the exact opposite if their candidate had won are doing just that.

There is also a gaping, glaring huge critical flaw in this whole Obama is only winning states we can't win in the general:

First, its untrue.

Second, Obama's wins are most by huge, significant margins. The majority of Clinton's wins on Super Tuesday were by much smaller margins. He's not only winning red states with record breaking turnouts, he has won blue states already, and in states Clinton won on Super Tuesday - she barely won them.

Anyone who thinks that 60% of the Democratic voters in a blue state are going to somehow sit home or vote for McCain are smoking huge amounts of something illegal.

Perpetuating this inane talking point translates into nothing more than being a poor sport. It has not substantive relevance.

2. Agreed, a ham sandwich will take the big BLUE states come November.

Hillary's winning them now because of the lingering support from her top down approach. It's pretty obvious that the longer Obama campaigns, the more traction he gets. It's the details shown in the little states that matter.

5. Virginia could very well go blue in November
Not a prediction, but a possibility that I hope will happen.

I'm a Clinton supporter, and I think it's wrong to write off ANY state.

8. No state should be written off, but this schedule the candidates
have to keep could be a killer. They can't be everywhere at once and kind of have to pick their fights.

7. Excellent points, all.
I will add to that one more myth about red states perpetuated by establishment Dems. The notion that elected Democrats from red states who vote with Republicans to give Bush his power-grabs are only representing their people is baseless and simplistic.

For one, red-staters are not alien creatures....they are just like you and I, which means that on average they do not know their elected official's positions on key issues. They only know the face and the party. I completely reject the notion that a red stater who votes for a Democrat really wants a Republican. The notion is absurd.

I will tell you what does happen, though...the red stater votes for the Democrat and the Democrat doesn't act any different from the Republican, but the Republicans screw their state for electing a Democrat, so they end up voting for a Republican again.

Southern Democrats should be held to a higher standard than "Republicans we put up with in our party".

Obama's popularity in the South is no joke...it has been transferred from the Edwards people. Act like a Democrat and stand up for what you believe in, and watch Southerners vote for you. I know Obama isn;t really that way, but he is perceived as that way...and that makes all of the difference.

10. This:
"I will tell you what does happen, though...the red stater votes for the Democrat and the Democrat doesn't act any different from the Republican, but the Republicans screw their state for electing a Democrat, so they end up voting for a Republican again."

...is an interesting point.

11. Hillary worries me because she seems to win in only very blue states
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 09:13 PM by Quixote1818
what good will that do us in the General election? Obama is going to win those states anyway. And if Hillary gets blown out in purple states like Virginia then she may get blasted in November.
