I have empathy for Hillary
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 08:58 PM by madaboutharry
I vote next week in Wisconsin and I have made up my mind in the last few days to vote for Obama. I feel that this country needs a clean slate. And her vote on the war is something I just can't get past.

But there is so much I admire about her. I think she is a remarkable woman in many ways and would make a fine president. I just think the stars aren't going to line up for her. There is a part of me that feels truly bad about that.

1. There are things I admire about her
but the things that I DON'T admire made this an easy decision for me. A woman president? Definitely, just not Hillary's time.

2. Sympathy might be more appropriate
Hillary's Deputy campaign mgr., Mike Henry just quit.
The little mice are jumping the sinking ship!

3. Thanks.
I'm kind of discouraged tonight. And, well...let's say that there are a few people here tonight who are less than gracious winners. But your post was nice to read.

4. So, if she makes a comeback and smokes her way to the nom, you will have no trouble
supporting her, then.

7. I didn't say that.

My decision has nothing to do with how she is doing in the primaries. I wonder why you read that into my post.

On edit: I am tired, I misread your post - sorry. Of course I will support her and vote for her if she wins the nomination.

5. There are many admirable qualities in Hillary Clinton...I just don't want her as the nominee
I've liked dozens of Democratic contenders over the years. I've voted against most of them.

6. I don't ... she remains my senator. Can't wait to call her office one
day for an appointment. Maybe I'll go to the Big Dog's office in Harlem to talk about the programs he's sponsoring for disadvantaged kids.

9. She paid a lot of money for some really bad advice and that's
tragic. She probably could have saved the money she paid Penn, winged it and be doing better than she is now.

Make no mistake -- that support for that resolution giving Bush* the authority to wage a preemptive attack on Iraq did her irrevocable harm. Many of the base recoiled against that vote and stated at that time it was purely a political move to cover her flank for her 2008 Presidential run. That yes vote would leave her less vulnerable to attack by the Republicans in the GE. However, in order to win a primary nomination one usually needs to bring along the base, and that is where I believe she is floundering.

There's nothing wrong with feeling bad for her at this point, many do. It might be the beginning of the end of her loftiest of political dreams.

10. So do I. I still really, really like her.
I like Obama more, of course. But if HRC wins it, she'll make a fantastic President.

13. I echo those sentiments
I also think either Hillary or Obama will kick McCain's ass in the GE. They both ran awesome campaigns.

16. Now THAT is what I'm counting on...

And it scares me, but in the end, the faster we all kiss and make up, the faster we can go out and erase McCain from the American tapestry.

11. Agreed. Totally.
I felt sad for her just a moment ago when watching her accept the cheers in Texas. She must know her chances for the nomination are slipping quickly away.

14. Yes, definitely remarkable.

The way she got her Senate seat was a bit too "Silver Spoon" for my taste, and I *hated* her vote. But she has incredible fortitude, and serious brain power. I hope that this year doesn't keep her from continuing to make history as a New York Senator... that would be... well, for one thing, it would be tacky, but overall, I think it would be a loss.

We need women in the Senate. We need African-Americans in the Senate. One of these candidates won't make it to the White House (possibly both...) and I have to that either or both will take all of the energy and drive that they've shown over the past year and push for the same changes they're talking about now, from a different angle.

If you think about it... having one in the Senate and the other in the White House has interesting advantages. You would think that their similar positions would be synergizing.

I hope they'll still be able to work together.

I have no idea what it's like for two people to spend 1-2 years flinging mud and sh*t at each other and then try to put it behind them and work together.

it looks like its starting to slip away from her. I'm an Obama supporter, but if she stages a comeback and wins the nomination, I'll enthusiastically support her!

17. I admire hillary a lot. She has been beaten from the right
for many years. and she is still standing strong. She is indeed a very strong woman, whom i will blindly support if she wins the nomination. I voted for Obama in my State primary. But i have some of the deepest respect for her.

I respect her and admire her dearly. I have her book and she had some incredibly story from her very begining to how she was one of the first women to attend college law when it was not common for women to do so.

21. I have empathy for her too
and there are things I admire and even like about her.

I'd love to see her as Majority Leader in the Senate. I think she could do a terrific job there with legislation for a new progressive agenda. She could make a strong contribution to the country there and it would still be a historic position - first woman Senate Majoriy Leader. Can't you see it???
