I feel sorry for David Shuster...
This must be killing him that he can't be part of this night! He apologized many times. I wish he was allowed back tonight.

59. He used it to refer to Petraeus and the fact that, instead of appearing before Congress himself to
answer questions about Iraq, Bush made Petraeus do the dirty work. He was insulted for Petraeus
and the way he was allowing himself to be used.

Keith used the word exactly as it was supposed to be used.

And maybe you should have explained just this fact when you posted your remark, so that it doesn't
present a distorted view.

71. I just never thought Shuster meant it the way it was received
He would have had to have been asking to be fired had it meant that sexually. His conversation was in the political context, not the political context. He simply asked whether the Clintons were using her to "procure" the superdelegate vote. It was pretty clear, I thought.

But this will pass.

34. Although I agree talking heads should be held accountable for what they say
I think its a far cry to go from "pimped her out" (which suggest Hillary is the pimp, not Chelsea) vs what Imus said... I think they are on two totally different levels of filth. Let the punishment fit the crime I say.

and lets face it, if calling Hillary a pimp is bad, shouldn't we not be allowed to use terms like media-whore?

And yes, the punishment should fit the crime. As far as I am aware, Shuster was given a temporary suspension, which is a much less serious punishment than what Imus received. Seems fair.

Imus and Shuster work for a news organization that wishes to project an image that they hold themselves to some minimal standard.

Rush Limbaugh's employer, if he even has one other than himself, couldn't care less. Hate is the product that they sell.

66. I don't think they wanted to make a point about lousy media.
I suspect that they wanted to make two points:

1) They wanted to make clear that their daughter is off limits.
2) They may feel that it is in their interest to show the media that they play hardball, and they will not hesitate to punish those who give them an opening.

72. Punitive toward an otherwise good reporter whose career is damaged
Chris Matthews sounds like a fool every day. Tucker rants on mindlessly. I can't not even watch them anymore. Shuster was becoming a real gem for our side. I have to read Newshounds to know what is going on with Fox because I can not watch it.

Now he is most likely gone for a power play. That upsets me.

45. There is a very significant difference in degree.
But on the question of "feeling sorry" for Shuster, the issue is the same:

- He said something inappropriate.
- He is being held accountable.
- I have a hard time feeling sorry for him.

She went after him, and let Fox off for all the hate they spew. I saw Keith Olbermann give a shudder when he spoke of how bad Shuster was to say that. It is going to put a chill on MSNBC whose night shows like Countdown and Dan Abrams have been doing some real live true research.

It's been much ado about nothing, another phoney outrage for the Clinton Campaign, the latest of many. He clearly used the term in a manner acceptable to most Americans under 35 years old. It wasn't literal, and no one with any sense would say it was meant literally. As a figure of speech, it's no different than saying James Carville is a whore for Clinton.

It's a double standard, but that's how Team Hillary likes to play it.
