Now I know both sides are doing this but I think it's a bit ridiculous...
I can't count how many people I've heard say the people of such and such state are like this and therefore that state's gonna go to such and such candidate. Usually this is based on one or two people the person has talked to or one particular neighborhood. This is not necessarily predictive of that entire state. Now in the town I live in every single precinct went for Obama. So did my county. I had a feeling before the election that this was going to happen from what I could tell during the course of campaigning there based on what people were telling me and the # of signs for each candidate. Now using said logic I could have said Obama is definitely going to win NY. But in fact Hillary won by 17% and my county was the only county in NY that Obama won.
To use another example, my parents and pretty much all their friends from their area that I talked to were also voting for Obama. Now in My parent's county, which is also in NY, Hillary won by 33%. Why did this happen? My parents and their friends are pretty liberal people who tend to deviate from the status quo. Clearly they are not representative of even their whole county. So please no more posts that say something like "my grandma's hairstylist is in kentucky was talking about how much she loves Hillary/Obama and all three people that were there agreed with her so I know Obama/Hillary's gonna win Kentucky."
