Really, I don't think they did it as a 'plot'. They both are just aching to feel relevant. Which neither of them are. At all.

I think Rudy's life strategy, of being pretty much a complete asshole to pretty much everyone pretty much always, has worked out well as far as flushing his campaign ignominiously out into the sewers of history.

But, since he tried to be nice, I will return the favor
