2. Just wish yourself back to 1992, when Tsongas was saying the same thing about Bill... |
|
...Obama is the media favorite because it gives them someone NEW to talk about for a change.
Not to mention the fact that he's currently leading HRC...

8. They've been talking about the Clintons for more than 16 YEARS!! |
|
And don't tell me they've always hated Bill Clinton--when 9/11 happened, they showed him hugging New Yorkers in the streets. When Katrina happened, he got plenty of positive coverage from the battered Gulf, along with George I.
Bill Clinton has gotten his due from the press--and if Hillary can't match it, that's because Hillary isn't Bill.

4. Obama is no Bill Clinton |
|
He's good at making speeches, but that's about it. The minute the news media turns on him, he'll implode.

7. What Do You Have To Offer As Any Evidence Of This? |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 12:25 AM by JimGinPA
I've seen Bill Clinton lose his temper numerous times, not to mention look right into the eyes (via camera) of America and outright lie! Seems to me Obama has much more self-control.

9. That isn't exactly a great analogy for Obama supporters to use |
|
After all, Tsongas was the uber qualified policy wonk who lost to the upstart, charismatic but superficial (Bill) Clinton. It's easy to see where the current candidates' names would go in that sentence, and it isn't flattering to Obama.
And I'm no Clinton fan. I was one of those 5 Tsongas supporters. :)

10. Well sheesh, my parallel won't work from EVERY perspective. |
|
I'm just comparing a older, name-friendly elder statesman to an unexpected change-of-pace.
In 1992, after Mondale and Dukakis lost, Democrats were ready to turn their attention to someone obscure who could actually win instead of leaving half of the party committed but uninspired.
In 2008, after Kerry's noble failure, it's about to happen again. That's all I'm saying.

considering that the winners will be the people who have received the most votes.

16. Yeah, act like the media doesn't influence voters' minds |
|
Act as if all of us didn't agree that the media helped Bush sell the Iraq war to the Americans. Act as if the media didn't sleep as Kerry was swiftboated. Act as if the media didn't dare ask Bush why he deserted his military unit. Act as if the media didn't massacre Gore in 2000 calling him a liar.

17. I think the media miscalculated on their horse race. |
|
They might be able to say "Hillary just won those debates" before Texas, but I expect that it won't actually work. They wanted to keep it down to the wire, that's why MSNBC was showing Hillary's biography right before certain primaries, etc.
