For the 2012 nominating season..... |
|
Let's get rid of super delegates and caucus voting...
Let's have primaries wherever possible...
Let's face it, the caucus system is better than the back room deals but isn't as good as primaries...
And before anyone gets their panties (or underwear) in a bunch, this isn't a swipe at Obama...
Good for him and his people to play that system far better than anyone else...
But in this day and age, we should have primaries...

1. When you say he played the system, yeah, that IS a swipe at Obama. |
|
Obama wins most caucuses because he's got the most motivated voters.
Anyway, I agree on getting rid of super delegates.

10. There's no call to be rude. |
|
All elections favor the most motivated voters. Caucuses just intensify that.

13. Sorry, I'm just so sick and tired of trying to make a point and have |
|
Obama supporters, more often than not, take some kind of offense...
I have never been a caucus supporter...
If we are going to be a party that is inclusive and empowering, why wouldn't we want primaries...

8. They caucs here in Ohio to select the delegates who will represent |
|
the candidates at the convention...
It's not as "offical" as a caucus, but hey I have been to more than a few party events...
And really now, the democratic party is about inclusion...
Not everybody can devote a couple of hours to attend a caucus...
But pretty much everybody can vote ina primary...
And in the end, isn't that what a democracy all about...

7. Why does the nomination process matter then? President Obama will run for reelection |
|
I don't see any challengers to him on the Dem side.

16. I'm for Obama and favor these reforms -- though it's unfair to say "he played" the system ... |
|
Obama just played according to the rules set down -- he didn't make them and indeed DON'T FORGET THAT HILLARY CLINTON AND HER DLC ALLIES HAD A LOT MORE SAY SO IN SETTING UP THIS SYSTEM THAN OBAMA DID!!!!!
so, yes, I agree: "get real"

19. I'm an Obama supporter and agree with your suggestions |
|
And I will throw in one of my own. The last primary date should contain more, and preferably significantly more, than half of the delegates for the nomination. That way there will never be a time where the race is over before someone votes. Even if one candidate had won all the previous contests, they would be under the number needed to get the nomination until the last contests, so they will still have meaning.
While caucuses have aided Obama, superdelegates (to this point) and the calendar have favored Clinton, so I would say its pretty much a wash at this point. By the end of this process, Obama will probably have a delegate advantage in the primaries as well, although much of his margin may come from caucuses.
