One big reason why Edwards should endorse Obama
It's pretty clear from the more recent primary and caucus results, since Edwards dropped out, that Edwards supporters
by and large have flocked to Obama and not Hillary. Of course there are other factors, including Obama's apparent
"gaining momentum" and all that, but you can bet your booties that if Edwards people were voting for Hillary, there's
no way in hell Obama could be trouncing Hillary the way he's been doing lately.

It would seem obvious on the face of it that John Edwards, out of loyalty to his supporters, should endorse Obama and
help put him over-the-top and save the party from a nasty grid-locked convention.

1. That is NOT true and only one who was NOT an Edwards supporter would say that.
I do not know many Edwards supporters who suppiort Obama at all.And why the f**k should Edwards , who has been treated abominably by the party and likely withdrew out of loyalty, save the party from anything? I hope they are gridlocked, and as for Obama, he doesn't even have a health care plan that is universal and in no way compares with John's.Hillary's health care plan is John's.Why should Edwards turn his back on what was one of his most important issues? After how he was treated, he owes this party NOTHING.I hope he NEVER endorses anyone.

2. Actually I WAS an Edwards supporter, so there.
I LOVE Edwards, before that I was for Kucinich.

One of the core reasons for supporting both is a deep misgiving (to put it mildly) about a continuation
of the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton Dynasty... enough is enough ... I don't like where it's gotten us thusfar,
and I want in the worst way to get OFF that train to nowheresville

I have misgivings about Obama, but much less than with Clinton.

4. So vote for the empty suit
but don't ask me to. My dislike of Obama has gone from mild dislike to almost hatred because of his rabid, cult like followers. Edwards supporters owe Obama NOTHING.

5. Whether they "owe" Obama is beside the point. They appear to be giving it up for BO
at the polls. How else do you explain Obama's huge wins since Edwards dropped out?

I'm open to other explanations, honest I am.

you hate a man, not because of anything he's done, but because of the behavior of people he's most likely never met?

24. I never liked him
I think he gives a great speech about nothing, but I absolutely hate his preacher cadence. I could not stand to be preached to for 4 years.

His supporters were just the icing on the cake. They are rude and arogant just like he is. I find absolutely nothing in him to vote for, other than "he's black".

7. Never the less, I still stand by the fact that it is not true that Edwards supporters flock to Obama
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 02:25 AM by saracat
That is just spin.Only 2 people out of the 12 large one Corps groups of Edwards supporters in my state went to Obama. The rest support Hillary. You may want off the Bush/Clinton/ Bush/Clinton train but if where you get off if Obamanation you may indeed be very sorry and you will have no guarantees that things will be any better. In fact the only guarantee you will have if that you will NOT have universal health care and he has "promised a seat at the table" to the insurance companies , corporations and Big Pharma. He also pledges to work with Big Energy. You may well be much worse off and he is telling us up front.

14. Well, SOMEBODY sure as hell...
flocked to Obama. With winning percentages in the 60's and 70's, it would seem like your claim is mathematically unlikely. Oh, and by the way, I am one Edwards supporter who "flocked." And I can't support somebody who counts those "insurance companies , corporations and Big Pharma" among her biggest campaign donors.

20. Misgivings about Obama?
You ought to... he's all about more and bigger government.... you think government ought to be your daddy and take care of you from cradle to grave? Clinton is worse...

DOES ANYONE UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES HERE? You are going to get change all right... not the change you think you're going to get... you'll get universal health care alright... that comes with NO CHOICES AND exactly who do you think is going to pay for it? Oh, that's right, the big daddy government, right? Oh and exactly where does big daddy government get its money to support universal health care? Hmmmm? FROM YOU, YOU IDIOTS... MORE TAXES! Do you not get it yet? you are paying for your enslavement by government.... Guess what? Government is BROKE, Social Security is BROKE, Medicare is BROKE! There is no more money! The government keeps borrowing from CHINA, because we don't have any more money! If they borrow from the Federal Reserve (which is neither federal or has any reserves)the Fed just prints the money! OUt of thin air! They just make up the number and print it! The Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE BANK! HELLO?! Do any of you know that? Or do you just not care?

Why do all of you assume that the government should take care of you? Can't you take care of yourselves? Oh, I give up... you guys deserve the government you are voting for... government has just about got this country enslaved totally. The government has crush, ripped and shredded our constitution. You all want welfare and warfare. You got it babies. When this EMPIRE finally falls, you'll wonder where it all went wrong... LOOK AT YOURSELVES... YOU VOTED FOR IT IN TOTAL IGNORANCE. YOU HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED...

At least you understand the Bush/Clinton dynasty issue, but what you are missing is the rest of the puzzle... Obama is part of the system you are trying to get rid of...

You want to keep the war going to win it? Well, it won't happen... the economy is in the dumpster, the war is costing us a TRILLION a year! We borrow from China to KEEP IT GOING... Hello?! Our country is broke!

None of the following candidates is going to help us out of this mess:

Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Kucinich, McCain, Huckabee, Romney... and Mainstream media has blacked out the only voice of reason. Figure it out for yourselves... I'm tired of explaining it to the dumbed down masses who are too lazy to research it for themselves, but rely on only Fox, CNN, MSNBC... etc...

By the way... how ya like the media picking your next president for you? That's exactly what they're doing... picking your next president for you. They are telling you who you should like and not like... They are counting on you to be too lazy to research it for yourselves.

Good Luck... I won't be back...

3. Right with you saracat
Now you have two posters in the top tier of Edwards supporters who are telling you NO F'in way, would we support Obama.

Why?

We support grown-up candidates without mindless zombie supporters who can't speak one iota of policy, but only GOBAMA mantras. When pressed, you offer LINKS.

Hell no, I would never go to Obama and that goes for most THINKING EDwards people.

6. Most Edwards supporters I supported him with went to Obama
Some went to Clinton and some refused to go anywhere. But most went to Obama. Your experience might vary, but it is wrong to say that an Edwards supporter wouldn't say that.

And it's ridiculous to think that Edwards wouldn't want to save the party he withdrew in order to save. I doubt that Edwards thinks a McCain presidency would be in the best interests of the country.

21. If you want to have a tantrum, the corner is over there.
Edwards' base sure as hell isn't lifting up Hillary's numbers. Between the possibility that most of them are supporting Obama vs. most of them stamping their feet and staying home to express their displeasure, I think I'll take option 1.

8. I supported John a year, and it took me 5 seconds to switch to Obama.
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 02:17 AM by TexasObserver
Obama was my second choice, and I thought Edwards-Obama would be a winning ticket. I oppose Clinton on the ticket for all the reasons John Edwards laid out the past year. How anyone can follow John and then go to Hillary is bizarre and inexplicable. It makes no sense.

I believe that the worst thing that could happen to our party this year is to have Hillary on the ticket. Not only do I not think she should be the nominee, I don't think she should be on the ticket. As John has pointed out, she has sold out to corporatists, globalists and lobbyists.

I don't believe anyone who says they will vote for Hillary because they're angry at Obama supporters. That's petulant rationalizations. No one is that petty.

Most of Edwards supporters are moving to Obama. There will always be supporters who really don't understand the process, and believe they are serving some greater good by remaining loyal to their candidate after he or she is gone, not unlike jilted lovers who make shrines to their departed.

11. It took me a bit longer, about a week i think
One of my sons sent me Obama's NH "concession" speech on video, and said "Dad check this out" (and he's no political dummy, he's
been a statewide organizer for environmental issues in Oregon) ... then next time he saw me he handed me an Obama bumber sticker
with a big smile, cuz he KNEW I'd been won over.

12. "understand the process" ? Don't you dare condescend to me. I have been involved in the "process" as
you call it, both as an activist and as a professional for 30+ years and I assure you I understand the "process". This year has been an epiphany for many of us and many of us will not support Obama under any conditions. And it is not out of loyalty to John .If you can even say that you never understood his campaign to begin with.It is out of a loyalty to issues.Barack does not represent anything I believe in.And he certainly doesn't support universal health care.

...I would say that he is wiser to endorse Barack as I feel Obama has left doors open in his cabinet where Hillary has a team that would suggest pre-ordained posts. I imagine AG would be best his VP has to be a woman to balance things out, maybe run McCaskill or Boxer.

23. This Edwardian has gone Obama
So do many I work with. Yes Obama surge after JRE dropped may or may not say something, I tend to think it does. I am SORRY to see my past JRE supporters still so angry. It makes me sad. M$M has given us our 2 choices. It has come time to investigate, investigate, investigate on the 2 candidates. I have. I have decided to vote and did vote for Obama. I don't know who JRE will endorse, I hope it is Obama. I decided on him for one main reason and that is his ethics proposals. I like the idea of transparency in and with our government. I like knowing what our government is deciding on as it is happening. Unlike Bush, we have been given bits and pieces and are left to connect the dots, only to find we have been horrendously duped. Brads blog tonight, another clue that we are being driven into a state government.

I aligned to JRE because he fit what I wanted in a candidate, sadly we don't have him anymore. Many who I work with are turning to Obama. I just found out that a woman I work with, who I thought was going to vote for Hillary, voted for Obama. She voted for him because she feels he will be better able to bring people together.

I hope the distain for Obama from the JRE supporters will lighten up. I have gone up against some of the Obama supporters in the past and I know some of them have been a little bit juvenile with the posts. I hope the Obama supporters will understand and try to tread carefully with the JRE supporters and realizing that JRE was one of a kind, and he is will be in and on the hearts of his supporters for a long time. I still have periods of sadness at this loss. As I have said, I realize that the M$M has chosen our candidates, I just feel, for me, Obama offers a path (through his ethics plan) that will begin to end the quagmire we find our country in. That is my hope.

There is a saying 40 miles in the woods, 40 miles out. It will take a while to overcome what Bush & Co. have done to America. It saddens me greatly what we know (many bloggers) and what we don't know fully. It saddens me greatly that in most Americans daily lives, busy with children, school, work, grocery shopping, etc. that they get what is going on nationally from our locals news station. It is a really sad and sorry state to know if you want the truth you have to look for it, do your own investigating. Connect the dots. Thank goodness for sites like this, thank you to Skinner for having the tenacity and bravery for starting this site.

In Novemeber, I hope we all come together, no matter who is the nominee. Then we put on our armour, we fight for our Dem nominee. That is what I hope for, even if it is Hillary :) I will. We must.

...and I think Edwards should hold off on any endorsement, regardless of who it is.

He may have more sway depending on where the race is going if he holds on to his delegates and support mechanism. Don't jump too soon.
