Almost time for Hillary to Pack it In |
|
At this point, she is risking her reputation by seeming to not get the message.
Barack Obama is going to be our party's nominee. In the interest of party unity, Mrs. Clinton might want to consider taking the high road and getting on board before she's forced to by the voters.
I really thought she was going to win. In the end, I think her campaign strategy was poor. And Obama has been a very attractive candidate.
Time for Hillary supporters, including myself, to move on.

1. That's a courageous thing for you to say. |
|
Hopeful, those on your side will begin to join you, and also hopefully, those who join me in backing Senator Obama will refrain from doing or saying things to antagonize rank-and-file Clintonites.
Perhaps the slow process of unity and healing can now begin.
Thank you for the strength and the character you've shown in saying this.

Funny, how every freeper trick in the book is employed on DU. On behalf of Obama. Funny - but not funny ha-ha.

Just like the rush of people showing up saying they're gay/bi and voting for Obama because he's so good for LGBTs. Riiiight. :eyes:

be taken at face value?
Becoming convinced that Obama would make a better candidate is a "freeper trick?"
That's dumb. I'm a low post count member thats been floating around DU for years. Not pulling any tricks. I like Hillary more, but have been convinced since a few days before super tuesday (mostly from seeing both candidates speak, and the popular response) that Obama is the way to go.

You're wrong. He called them out on their bad behavior in NH. Prior to that, if you went after Hillary he came after you like a lawn mower looking for some grass to cut.

But why don't you got talk to Obama about why he can't come up with a better health care reform plan and why he can't leave Social Security alone.

5. While I think the tea leaves have spoken, |
|
and I think Clinton's efforts will grow increasingly futile, I would challenge the assertion that staying in the race hurts her reputation - per being a US Senator and a serious figure in the senate. I just don't recall that being a result in the past for candidates who stay in the race even after the tea leaves have spoken. Imo, it really comes down to how much debt her campaign is willing to accrue (and commit to raising post-loss) before she steps out of the race.

20. Her press is going to turn increasingly negative, in my opinion |
|
I could be wrong. But all I see is positive press for Obama and anti-Hillary stuff. I don't see that improving as he racks ups more and more wins.

9. I'm through guessing when campaigns are doomed. |

I was sure McCain would have to pack it in last fall, and now look at him. (I was also sure bush wouldn't be nominated in 2000. Some pundit! Although I did know there were no WMD in Iraq.)

11. I have no problem with the battle going on until the convention... |
|
...as it seems it will, as long as the two candidates will grapple ethically for the remaining delegates. I'm afraid, though, that the DLC will find a way simply to award Clinton the Michigan and Florida numbers.
I still want Obama to win, but Clinton was preordained.

12. She can stay in until August for all I care |
|
but if she is behind in actual pledged delegates, she should step aside. Same holds true for Obama. If either candidate amasses, say a 250 actual pledged delegate lead, I would have to say it is over as well.

13. It would be nice if all the states were allowed to vote on who |
|
they want as a candidate before everyone starts demanding people to drop out. I don't think it's fair that the early states are more important. I hope she stays in until all states have voted, and I wish Edwards would've too.

18. Too much of the campaign would be 30 second media bites |

given the size of the audience having to be reached at once. I like the idea of rolling regional primaries - with a rotation of which region goes in which order.

Whether she knows it or not, that's the right thing to do. Prove conclusively that Obama can win in every conceivable contest, then bow out gracefully. It will leave him in a much stronger position.
