Poll question: How many of you didn't vote for Kerry in 2004? |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 12:43 PM by democrattotheend
I remember hearing the same "I won't vote for x if they get the nomination" here four years ago, so I thought it would be interesting to see how many people ended up not voting for Kerry in the general election.

12. very much recovering... |

I was very young when Reagan was president. All I can remember about him in that time was most of the mill workers loved him (at least the mill town where I lived) and I remember when he was shot. I guess I stayed a repub based on what I knew growing up. Bush sr., I never did like, and as far as Bush jr. goes.. I have no excuse, at least an excuse that has any real meaning. In 04, I began to realize to what extent I was manipulated and lied to.. the rest is history.

5. Started out supporting Kerry by default (ABB) |
|
The more I learned about him and his life and ideas and ideals, the more I wanted to see him, not just any Democrat, in the White House. Since he went back to the Senate in 2005, he's proved me right every day. Still proud of that vote and wish I could vote for him again for that office someday.

6. I like him a lot better now than I did then |
|
At the time, I was bummed that he lost because it meant four more years of Bush, but the votes he has cast and the things he has said since 2004 make me more sad that he didn't become president. Although honestly, given the way the war and the economy have gone to shit in the last few years, I honestly think we'd be in a tougher spot right now trying to get President Kerry reelected than trying to win the White House wide open. If only Bush could run for a third term, it would be a slam dunk!

13. "Given the way the economy and the war have gone" |
|
Wouldn't have happened in a Kerry Administration. Our guys would be home by now, and a lot of the jobs America has lost because of NAFTA, and bowing down to the "corporate leaders" would not have happened! If only Rove hadn't cheated the Americans with his crooked Ohio "selection"!! I really don't believe that the "swiftboating" had as much effect on the election as TURDBLOSSOM did!!

23. I don't know about that |
|
I don't know that we were in a position to pull the troops out back then, and I do believe there is some cyclical nature to the economy, though government policy certainly plays a role. Kerry probably would have begun bringing the troops home by now, but I still think a lot of the things that have happened over the past 4 years would still have happened and he'd be getting blamed for them.

24. Respectfully disagree |

I guess the pertinent question for this hypothetical is whether the Congress would still have been the same one that began its session in 2005. If so, he would have had a tough time getting ANYTHING done, but he had great plans and the wisdom and insight to set them in action. Also, we know that the Cabinet he was planning would likely have encouraged bipartisanship and cooperation and he might actually have managed to shame even that hideously partisan GOP-controlled Congress into getting more done than they did during their feeding frenzy under Bush.

7. Of course I voted for Kerry - and if 10,000 other Iowans would've ..... |
|
well, you know.
(and that's not actually correct - more Iowans did vote for Kerry - but his campaign called off the absentee ballot pick up early with the presumption that there weren't 10,000 absentee ballots out there w/Kerry's name on them). Oh well.

8. Iowa alone would not have been enough |
|
Although to this day I remain cross with the voters of Iowa for single-handedly picking Kerry as our nominee and then not even voting for him in the general. But they have redeemed themselves with me somewhat this year.

I don't want to bash Kerry. His campaign did what they thought was right. Just seems in the biggest race of one's life, why 'leave money on the table' or votes uncounted as it may be. Oh, well, can't re-run 2004 today. Just hope the Democratic nominee in 2008 plans on running in Iowa through the entire election - and count every vote!!!

Yes I voted for Kerry!! You bet your sweet "patutti"!! I campaigned for him, and I know that in fact HE DID WIN THAT ELECTION !! I'm still a member of the "Kerrycrats", and still get email from him. He would have been an IDEAL President, and I'm sure he endorsed Barack because he see's many of his own qualities in him.

so I may be a little partial, plus I really appreciated his investigation of the Iran/Contra crimes that was never acted on, due to the 'cover-up' wing of the Democratic party.

21. Mine too, and I stayed bitter at Kerry for a while |
|
but didn't have a problem voting for him in the end. I campaigned for him too, though not nearly to the extent that I was involved with the Dean campaign.
I actually like John Kerry a lot better now than I did during the 2004 election...I'm glad he did not run again, but he's a great senator and I am glad he's on the right side of the nominating contest this time around. ;-)

Unfortunately a very serious family crisis intervened at the last minute. I was not able to be in California for the vote, and it was too late for absentee.

26. Was glad to vote for Kerry in 11/04 and hope to vote for Obama in 11/08. |

Hillary will get my vote if she wins the nomination, but a.) that's all she'll get (no contributions, no volunteer time), and b.) I'll be holding my nose with one hand and a barf bag in the other.
