Ohio GOP roots for Hillary

One of the worst-kept secrets of the Ohio presidential primary is that Republican party leaders have a candidate they are rooting for on the Democratic side.

Her name is Hillary Clinton, and they believe that if she wins the Ohio primary and goes on to become the Democratic nominee, she will be the one who unites their dispirited and divided party and give them their best chance of keeping the White House this fall.



It is a belief that the Clinton campaign says is wrong-headed and they will campaign across the state for the next three weeks making the argument that their battle-tested, experienced candidate is the only one who can go toe-to-toe with John McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee this fall.

She’ll need to do some convincing, fast. For Clinton, Ohio’s March 4 primary is looking more and more critical.

1. I've postulated this from the beginning

Clinton is the nominee they WANT to campaign against, because it would mean a higher voter turnout of batwing nutjobs against her, just like gay marriage worked for them in the past.

Fairly or unfairly, they love to hate her with the intensity of a thousand suns.

I support Obama, I think all this talk about who the GOP wants to run against is pointless. Some seem to think Obama will be easier to beat, some think Clinton.

I don't care what they think. IMHO either one of them can beat McCain.

side will reject and the general election is yours.

5. There's a lot of Ohio Republicans probably sweating about investigations regarding

the past 8 years and including the '04. Bill Clinton's closeness to poppy would probably save their sorry asses from justice as well as keeping their corporate agenda right on track. I also believe that the animosity felt about the Clintons would increase turn-out. Hillary is a win win situation for the GOP.
