Can Obama inspire a revolution of no more career politicians? |
|
Should members of Congress be ordinary citizens like you and me who are just performing a civic duty. Do you think Barack could lead the way in getting non-career politicians involved. Maybe we could even set one-term limits for Senators and Representatives?

1. I'd actually be against single-term term limits. |
|
You think nothing gets done now? Try replacing everyone in Congress every single time an election happens. Having people on the Hill who know the process isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think term limits have their place, but I think something like 5 terms in the House and 2 or 3 terms in the Senate is much more reasonable.

2. Yeah, but some people have spent lifetimes getting nothing done... |

Are lifelong representatives out of touch?

3. I'd agree that lifelong reps may be out of touch... |

I just don't think it's a good idea to go totally in the opposite direction. Like I said, I'm all for term limits, I just think it'd be a bad idea to set them at one term.

4. The people should decide who serves them well and for as long as they want. |
|
At least, that is my opinion. Senators like Kennedy have powerful Senate offices where the enact important investigations and policy explorations.

5. So, do you think a two-term limit for presidents should be lifted? |

6. Interesting question. No, I don't. The power of the office is too great |
|
and as we have now seen, cheating can occur that could keep someone corrupt in power.

obama is a politician....right at the moment he's very popular...he hasn't really pissed anybody off with the exception of some opposing partisans.....but he hasn't had to deliver anything yet....wait till he has to start making deals and the proof is in the pudding as opposed to now where ya take him at his word or not.....he did vote to continue funding the war...and while i'm not ready to jump on him for that...because so did almost everybody else....it's still contrary to what he led voters to believe he would do....so when he starts approaching his political zenith....he'll leave some wiggle room for himself...after all he's got really new ideas....he is the embodiment of hope

8. Not when people can loan their campaigns $5 million to win an election |
|
We would need government funding only before we can even begin to discuss this possibility. Even then it will depend on what you need to do to be funded.
It may be a step in the right direction but that is all.

Term limits here in MI have led to the government being run by the parties' professional staffs and lobbyists. It's been a disaster, particularly in terms of the budget process.
