Isn't Anyone Concerned About Congressional Elections This Year?
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=2008_U.S._congressional_elections

With elections taking place in all states and with 33 Senate seats up for grabs this November 4, why does it seem like no one is concerned that Democrats could well lose control of the Congress this year? And should that happen, will it really matter if a Democrat is in the White House? Perhaps that is why I sense that Republicans really are not too hyped up about the presidential election and really have put up lackluster candidates, because they are aiming to take back Congress. It isn't written in stone that Democrats will maintain their "majority" this year, especially since they didn't do what they promised they would do in 2006. I think more attention should be paid to these races. Already in NJ, Bush Republicans are running ads to try to unseat Frank Lautenberg. With all the attention being paid to the American Idol presidential race, I think we are making a mistake in not realizing that a few votes tossed here and a few eaten up by a touchscreen machine there could be the difference betweeen "change" and really keeping things as they are even with a Democratic president.

1. I'm not concerned
We'll likely pick up a lot of seats in the Senate, and I expect to increase the majority in the House, too. A LOT of Republicans are retiring.

8. Agree! HRC will bring out the GOP voters, since they really
have a lousy candidate and no hot-button issues (e.g. gay marriage) to energize them.

It is, IMHO, more important to get fillibuster-proof majorities in both Houses than who gets to be President, but of course we all want both!

7. I should be. But I'm finding it hard to focus with the huge presidential race going on.
But, I live in Idaho - which means a little "less" of my attention on congress is required

9. Well actually I am .
I have been in contact with my SOS since November, 2007 following up on pencil and paper ballots for Ohio. I have sent Kucinich money for his seat and I don't live in his district. If I can find more information on the Dem running against Pelosi I will send her money in hopes that we can fill the halls with Dems that give a *amn about the American people. Just sent www.progressivepatriotsfund.org $100 to help get more good Dems elected. That's about it for me. Peace, Kim

11. Actually, the Congressional election
is where I'm putting most of my money and energy this year http://www.bensonforcongress.com to dump that asshole, Don Young. Diane Benson is a candidate I actually know (unlike the presidential candidates) so I can put full confidence in supporting her.

Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 09:18 PM by Armstead
Those races are important, but it's hard to get discussion on a national board like GD/Primaries.

With the exception of some high-profile races, most House seats tend to be more localized. Senate more visible but still...

I'm still undecided between the two. Need to make up my mind and get busy for one or the other. Yes, people are paying attention to their local races.

20. I am very concern especially with Obama at top of ticket. Congress controlled by Dems has lower
favorable numbers than Bush. We could lose it all

21. Why you think that congressional members with OBama at the top of the ticket would lose?
Cause he's tall? Cause he brings more voters to the polls than seen in years? Cause he's Black? Why are you so afraid?

Repugs would have ran Collin Powell if he would have said yes....and Condi too.

Guess they have less of a "problem" than you do. I always suspected that about some "Liberals" though, so no surprise.

22. Why do you assume race has anything to do with this poster's opinion?
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 04:40 AM by Hobarticus
The poster said NOTHING about race, at all, yet you bring up two prominent AA GOP figureheads and say that the GOP must have less of a "problem" than the poster.

Just curious, where did you get that?

23. Yes, and it's the number one reason to oppose Hillary on the ticket.
We cannot hold congress if Hillary leads the ticket.

It will be a disaster, and not just congress. She's a party killer, all the way to the little courthouses that have Democratic judges, tax assessors, constables, commissioners, etc.
