They're just upset about the possibility that we may have a nominee who has a chance to win with more than 52% of the popular vote.
The purity test requires that we not solicit the votes of anyone who has ever voted republican, ever. So if Obama appeals to some people who voted for Reagan, then he MUST be a closet republican. Because we don't want those votes. That's why no one celebrated when Jim Webb won Virginia. We don't want ex-republicans. We want a pure unadulterated losing party.

11. So you'd rather see the Republican candidate win thatn the "Remocrat"? |
|
If Obama gets the nomination, the next president is either going to be Obama or McCain. Period. So you can either work to defeat McCain by voting for Obama or you can indirectly support McCain's election by not voting for Obama. Soory, but there is no inbetween choice.
So ask yourself: do you want to defeat the candidate that will be endorsed by chimpy and cheney or do you want that candidate defeated?
If McCain is elected, will you care if it means that more Americans die in Iraq than would have had Obama been elected? Will you care if during a McCain presidency, he appoints to the Supreme Court a justice that casts the deciding vote to overturn Roe v Wade?
If you can in good conscience say you don't care about such things, then I guess you're going to do them. I for one will vote for, and vigorously work for, the election of either Clinton or Obama.

I don't see one in your post. Is there some alternative to either the Democratic candidate or the Republican candidate winning in 2008? If not, failure to work for the defeat of one indirectly assists in his election. Its not a straw man. Its reality. I can't help it if you don't like it.
And in case you hadn't noticed, I said I'm voting for the Democratic candidate, whether its Obama or Clinton. If that makes me an "Obamite" so be it. Being for no Democratic candidate makes you a nothing.

was that one would rather a Republican win, if they didn't like Obama. It was stated as a proof.
Unfortunately, life is nuanced. I can't stand Obama, as anyone with an inquiring mind would probably agree. Shallow, inexperienced, shielded from scrutiny and able to manipulate the neophyte voters with nothing more than teleprompter fluff.
That said, I still don't want to see a Rethug win. I'm just tired of all the absurd contortions most Obamites ( not you ) go to in order to posit ridiculous cause and effect questions or pronouncements.

They are VERY similar.
Obama: withdraw from Iraq in 16 months. McCain: stay in Iraq 100 yrs if necessary.
This similarity alone is a difference of thousands of lives and Billions (if not trillions) of dollars.
Obama: progress on health care (Okay, his plan is far from perfect. But it's better than nothing.) McCain: nothing on health care.
With this similarity, the number of uninsured will likely go up to 100m during this republican presidency.
Obama: Much more likely to put left of center appointments on the Supreme Court. McCain: More likely to put RW idealogues like Scalia, Alito, and Roberts on the bench.
With this similarity, Roe v. Wade, under a Republican administration is a goner. With one definite appointment, and probably more, the SCOTU will go right wing for the next 30 years.
Yup. Exactly alike.

I really haven't decided yet; and I have a couple more weeks to do so. I was hoping Gore would run; I liked Kucinich's message; I was planning on voting for Edwards. All gone. I've got a few quibbles with both Hillary and Obama. But I feel either would be an acceptable President, and they're what we got. McCain would not be acceptable.
I agree that it is vitally important to get behind whichever candidate we nominate. And a non-vote for the Dem nominee is a vote for McCain.

|
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 07:36 PM by backscatter712
Obama is not selling us out.
He's not triangulating.
He's not pulling a Lieberman.
He's expanding our audience.
Contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of decent people who are fleeing or thinking of fleeing the Republican Party, because they're waking up and realizing that they've been lied to and screwed.
With some convincing, we can bring some of them in as progressives.
The paranoia bugs me. Really disturbs me. George W. Bush's most insidious accomplishment in his nefarious presidency was to create the worst division between Americans since the Civil War. We're paranoid, huddling in our armed camps, flinging poo at each other, completely refusing to even have a civil discussion, demonizing and dehumanizing Them.
This needs to stop. Obama understands this.
We need to start remembering that before we are Democrats or Republicans, we're Americans.

I will give you one small caveat... just because someone writes effectively and then posts on DU doesn't mean that his/her voice is representative of the party's concerns. We tend to give more credence to ideas once they're written down than we would if we just heard some crazy person ranting the same words on the street.
No serious Clinton supporter would think that Obama is planning to secretly sell out the party's agenda. Anyone expressing that idea is almost by definition a loony, or at least temporarily hysterical. The same applies to Obama supporters on this board who call Clinton a corporate shill or a DINO or any other thoughtless insult. Such people are not behaving themselves and would either shape up or get ignored in polite society.
Not that there's no differences, but you'd have to be blind to think the two candidates would offer radically different policies.
Still, your words are welcome medicine here. I'm a Democrat because I want the best for my country. I trust democracy and I'm convinced the democratic process will give us the best candidate this year.

67. How about we have two good candidates left in the race? |
|
One of whom is likely to wrap up the nomination in the next two weeks, and either of whom we should of course support in the general election. How about that?

71. You need to grow up. In fact, how old are you? |
|
In my voting life time I had the opportunity exactly once, in 1972, to vote for a Democratic presidential candidate that I fully supported. I started this season with Kucinich, moved on to Edwards, and have ended up with Obama. Had Clinton been able to win over the last few weeks, I would be prepared to support her presidential campaign. That is the way it is. Our system is flawed and we end up with a choice of compromised candidates. Grow the fuck up.

72. thank you very much for your last and very inappropriate line. |
|
it tells me that my position has really hit a nerve with you and it shows that you are quite grown up and mature. and just because the obamas can attack hillary clinton, say what they want about her, but if she says anything about them they accuse her of being a racist, just because the remocrat is not, with the help of the media and unthinking americans playing fairly ... i will not vote for a man who is a media sound bite creation. however, you: go right ahead.

Wow, what a screed. Got some meds to help you with this problem? Nothing you say has hit a nerve, most of us brave enough to wander through your convoluted tripe are just asking :wtf: You are a sad, pathetic, tedious person with no fucking life. Rem this up your ass. Remocrat indeed.

76. What makes Obama a "Remocrat" and Hillary not a "Remocrat"? |
|
What is a "Remocrat"? Give us examples of what makes a candidate a Remocrat.
Is it just because you dislike him? What is the logic behind calling Obama a "Remocrat"?

78. Mr. Wiggles, Obama speaks with Republican Talking Points. Many Republicans,as he himself said, lower |
|
their voices in whispers telling him they'll vote for him ... many republicans will vote for him just to knock hillary out of the race ... poppy bush promised as much in not so many words. Hillary is a tried and true democrat who has been working for children, women's rights and people of all colors for the last thirty five years ... she sees people, Mr. Wiggles, not colors... Hillary's record speaks to the fact ...
And, as Erica Jong, an American poet and novelist says about Obama,
"the truth is, we have no idea what he stands for. At least I don't. All we have are soundbites and attacks on "the" Clintons."

If there was any doubt about why a fair amount of independents think the democrats are fucking idiots, the OP just summed it up for you.
Look, after 8 years of Bush, you guys should be able to be able to run a retarded 3-legged dead donkey and win the presidency and you're still fucking it up. What the hell is wrong with you people?

If you hate the cozying up to republicans, you will really hate another *term of republicanism in the WH. I really don't believe Obama when he says he'll 'work with republicans.' For one thing, the present pack are lying weasels who can't be trusted. He'll find that out. All he'll manage with that attitude is legislation like NCLB which will undermine the principles our side is fighting for in favor of a few republican votes. We've had enough centrist politics to last a lifetime, for me.
But you can't ignore all of the other Democratic influences which will follow Obama or Clinton into office, or disregard the republican ones who will advantage themselves of a McCain presidency. There are even shades of gray in that choice as well. You have to choose. I hope you choose progress over cynicism.
(Hillary stalwart here . . .)
