Barack Obama Nikes? Sorry, this goes too far
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 09:58 PM by RestoreGore
http://www.bigbadmedium.com/barack_nikes

"Barack Obama custom Nikes. With two different portraits of the presidential hopeful on each side and the phrases “Change” and “Yes We Can” both rally cries we’ve heard from the Obama camp. Check out more pictures on his myspace page."

If a Bush supporter put his face on these people would be saying it was "cultish" and meant to brainwash people. This isn't a presidential election, it's a GD ego contest. SOS.

But after eight years of people going along with Bush and saying he could do no wrong because they put HIM FIRST, I'm not putting up with it again regardless of what party the candidate is from or who it is. And I definitely see that pattern here regarding him.

I agree with you. I think this is the one creepy thing about that campaign. "He is like RFK/he is like Jesus/he is like MLK/he is GOD/"...

I find it very off-putting. Tell me he is the best politician out there and I would listen. Tell me he is the best thing since sliced bread and I feel you are insulting my intelligence.

48. I have a hand-crafted Barack Obama for President 2008 wooden bread board
Handmade by an honest-to-god guy from the South Side of Chicago and being sold for $15 at a local Hyde Park restaurant. The campaign had nothing to do with it, but when I saw it about a year ago, I decided I had to have it --- to put next to the Ron and Nancy Regan puffy slippers someone gave me (as a joke) back in the 80s.

The shoes are fabulous.

52. As usual, people here don't get the point because they are too wrapped up in the BS
This is about the very soundbites Al Gore mentioned in his book. This is about reducing something important to a bs pair of sneakers with a slogan just to make money. And if they were Clinton Nikes I would have posted it as well, because it speaks volumes about what some people find as important. It is bad enough the Democratic dialogue in this country has been reduced as it has. The last thing we need are people continuing the same BS we see in campaign after campaign after campaign. It isn't about the PERSON running, it is about the issues and our country. But far be it for some to understand that as they hide behind their symbols. All you all do is jump on people for daring to make an observation or a comment about your idol no matter hwo it is. It is then very hard to believe this country is what really comes first. It also isn't hard to understand why this process has deteriorated as it has and why good people who care about issues want nothing to do with this process.

67. It's just one example of the pervasive political BS in this country
And the attraction to this type of thing over substance by many. It is pervasive in this country and is pushed by a maintream media that does nothing but push hype and consumption. And it bothers me to see campaigns reduced to nothing more than slogans to make a buck off of... because that mentality is what kept a very good man out of this.

61. And I'll bet you money if Gore were running and someone designed
shoes like this with Gore's name on them, you wouldn't have one problem with that. You're being disingenuous.

69. Care for a John Edwards "Vote Hottie" t-shirt or thong? Or "Run Al Gore" boxers?
Candidates don't make these decisions.

Someone will always be available to try to make money from an event or cause that should not be associated with money. That does not mean that many or most of their supporters are star-struck or dumb.

77. I think that is in the eye of the beholder, but thongs and boxers are, IMO, cultish.
A t-shirt or cap is a way to telling people who you support - not cultish, not overboard.

Thongs, panties, boxers... that is a "special" "private" relationship with a candidate, kind of like one would have with a leader of a cult.

I find the thongs, panties, boxers highly inappropriate.

82. No I wouldn't and I think you missed the point as well... or actually, you illustrated it
And where did I state anywhere in the OP that Obama was part of this?... Hmm, nowhere. Again, it is the atmosphere surrounding campaigns and putting this crap above issues that is my point. Oh well, just forget it already. It is obvious people here are determined to not admit that they too are part of the very type of atmosphere they claim detracts from campaigns of substance. And again, had these been Bush sneakers I can imagine the comments that would have been made(as were rightfully made when the Bush fighter pilot doll came out not too long ago,) which again proves another point about hypocrisy. It is one thing to support a candidate's positions and even respect them, but the abject idolatry I have seen by some not just for Obama but others over the years including Bush makes me uncomfortable. Just look at this thread and the amount of responses to it. Had I typed something about climate change it would be archived by now.

80. Excuse me?
Talking about the environment and supporting Mr. Gore's efforts regarding that is not being part of a cult. At least I am HONEST and have the capacity to disagree with him on policy and other matters, and would NOT put him above this country. So you don't know what you are talking about. No shoes or t-shirts in my house. And really, the way you and your little friends here pushed people out of your cult folder here for him, I wouldn't talk at all because it is obvious you don't comprehend much of anything typed here.

You are trying way too hard to find something wrong with Obama supporters. It is their money.  It's their candidate.  It is a free country.  Don't be a whiny busybody.  It is tiresome.

109. Can I Kick It?
First off thanks to everyone for checking out my blog, grazie, gracias and thank you. I like the dialoque in here, even if some of yall seem a little too worked up over a custom made shoe. Despite what everyone here is saying about the shoes being "cultish" or "going too far" etc...what this really is a young independent artist out of Cincinnati making something to represent which candidate he was excited about. This is not much different than someone making a homemade t-shirt or button or poster...except they are shoes. In case you are unaware, there is a sub-culture of artists and fans that customize shoes...for fun! Imagine that? Having fun with art still exists in this world. If anything, what this says about Barack Obama is what's been evident this whole primary season, that he's gotten young people excited about his presidential run, and excited about the democratic process, and everyone, especially Democrats should be happy to see this, not angry.
