That's how I have always seen it. I hope this primary season is no more than growing pains. We have 2 excellent candidates going into the stretch run. Inside the outward appearance of Clinton and Obama resides the soul of a national leader, who will represent our party in the national election. I happen to be a gray American reptile but I hope I don't define myself by my outward appearance. I am excited by the energy produced by this campaign, especially by the youth whose futures will be impacted by the outcome. My excitement did not end when the last white male withdrew. I can foresee a record turnout of voters who will propel us to victories in the Senate, House, state and local elections. There are many others who echo those sentiments, both here on DU and on the streets of every community. So, in the heat of this stretch run, can we please learn from this experience to refrain from defining our arguments by race or gender? Senator Clinton or Senator Obama will represent all of us. If we nominate a Mark Warner in some future election cycle, would we not expect the same support even though he happens to be a male or white? Thankfully, it is not about race or gender. It is about leadership and vision of a brighter tomorrow for our country. We Democrats must be a team and we must resolve to express ourselves and our arguments without division by race or gender. Let's learn and be better for our experiences.
