Right-wing begins lying about Obama
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 06:55 AM by Onlooker
I found this in a right wing blog, and if you do a search for "Global Poverty Act" 0.7%, you'll see the lie is spreading:

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1386596http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1386596

Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama’s “Global Poverty Act” (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

The actual bill says nothing about 0.7% or even carrying out the UN goals. It merely says the US will take steps in that direction:

2. If saying that Obama is committed to fighting global poverty

is the worst they have to attack him, then we are in good shape!

6. The funny thing is
the RW loons have spent a small fortune on anti Hillary buttons, hats, flyers, coffee mugs and so forth and now they might have to do it all over again for Obama. At least the manufacturers of those items will be happy, the RW loonies, not so much.

7. I hope Hillary is wrong , when she says, Obama's not ready
for the right wing attack machine. Maybe Obama thinks he can bring on a new politics. Tell that to the 'swiftboaters.' Never thought of them as being non-partisan.

14. I'm more than worried about that myself....
Obama supporters think that Hillary supporters are mean? They better toughen up, because once the right-wing attack machine and the media (who have been fawning over the wunderkind thus far) get in gear, they're going to have a collective nervous breakdown. The media is choosing our candidate for us, as always, and when they turn against him, as always (because they LOVE the Republican corporate largess) , young Mr. Obama is suddenly going to look very unprepared for the office of President. All the "hope" in the world can't stand up to the withering attacks that will be brought to bear against him.

At least that's the way I see it. I'll support Obama if he's our candidate, but I don't think he, or his supporters, are prepared for the onslaught to come.

16. agreed.
Obama seems pretty thin skinned with Hillary. They , the GOP trolls, already call him Osama. I hope Obama is less likely to cry in public than Hillary. McCain vs Obama. Of course the press will treat him like Al Gore. I am afraid Obama will not know what hit him. Hope not, but early indicators are not good.

8. Joe Conason has an article today discussing RW lies on Obama
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/02/whats_waiting_for_obama.html

I don't think anyone would expect any different treatment by the RW for Obama. They lie. Yes, we know. And we have to be alert, so thank you for the OP.

For those who aren't aware of it, here is more information on the .7% commitment.

http://mirror.undp.org/unmillenniumproject/press/qa4_e.htm

Which does not, as the OP points out, appear in S. 2433, the Global Poverty Act:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.2433:

Here are the co-sponsors in the Senate:

Sen Biden, Joseph R., Jr. - 2/12/2008
Sen Cantwell, Maria - 12/7/2007
Sen Dodd, Christopher J. - 2/12/2008
Sen Durbin, Richard - 2/7/2008
Sen Feingold, Russell D. - 2/13/2008
Sen Feinstein, Dianne - 1/23/2008
Sen Hagel, Chuck - 12/7/2007
Sen Lugar, Richard G. - 2/5/2008
Sen Menendez, Robert - 2/11/2008

12. Well, you know how the right wing hates the idea of spending hundreds of billions overseas.
Why, it's a miracle that the Democrats were able to keep pushing that war thing.

13. Get used to it. The Obamaites seemed to enjoy it when Hillary was on the receiving end of RW garbage
for over 15 years, so get ready to enjoy a little taste of it for yourselves. You haven't seen anything yet. Wait until he gets the nod.

He had better get used to it and tough it out. This is only the beginning. And that is mild compared to what is to come. Republicans are brutal.
