Clinton ups pressure for Wisconsin debate with Obama

UNDATED (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton continued Thursday to pressure Barack Obama to debate in Wisconsin before Tuesday's primary election.

"Maybe he doesn't want to debate because he thinks he already won or maybe he doesn't want to debate because he doesn't want to answer tough questions, like why his health care plan doesn't cover 15 million Americans," Clinton said in a telephone call from Ohio, where she was campaigning. "He has a lot of questions to answer."

17. Since when are debates considered acts of desperation?
I want ALL the candidates to debate as much as possible and to be asked the hard questions. Otherwise all you'll hear is what some speechwriter wants you to hear -- the safe stuff with no Q&A. That's why speeches and lectures simply aren't enough.

Hillary Clinton neglects Wisconsin

An editorial — 2/14/2008 8:58 am

Guess we don't count for much in New York Sen. Hillary Clinton's eyes.

The Democratic presidential contender, after going 0-8 in recent primaries and caucuses, has a new "Path to the Nomination" strategy that is sketched out in a memo authored by her chief campaign planner.

But Democratic strategist Tom Penn's memo fails to mention Wisconsin's Feb. 19 primary.

Instead, it declares: "Change begins March 4."

That's the day when Texas and Ohio vote in primaries that have drawn Clinton away from Wisconsin for much of this critical pre-primary week.

We don't mean to rain on Penn's parade, but Wisconsinites will make choices on Feb. 19 that send a powerful signal with regard to the long-term viability of Clinton's candidacy. She and her aides should be taking the Badger State's primary seriously.

Polls suggest that she now trails here. Some of that has to do with Barack Obama's smart organizing and campaigning. But Clinton would undoubtedly be doing better if she was trying harder.

42. I guess she doesn't like talking about real issues.
When Obama speaks he talks about how they differ on the issues and why he's a better candidate than Hillary. I guess Hillary would rather play political games and distract people from the issues with this debate challenge gimmick. She's the one who lacks substance now.

Why risk your lead, or give her hours of free airtime? Obama knows that's what she's up to. Remember, I'll bet Hillary wishes she could take back the debate when she bobbled the driver's-license for illegals question. That's where the cracks in her foundation started.

Or does it not bother you that she hired incompetent people to run her campaign. Or that nobody thought far enough ahead to plan for post Feb 5. Reminds me an awful lot of the moron we've had in the WH for the last 7 years.

Is that the new thing now? Dismissing facts you dont like as "memes"? Are Hillary supporters so blind that they cant even admit this display of poor management is a problem?

Most posts i see by you holds no reason to be non-snarky in return, there is exceptions i will admit as i have read a small number of posts where i agree with you and even if i have disagreed they have made sense(but most has in my eyes been less then serious)

And a good day to you :)

139. if you look at this subthread it started with a much repeated meme--that is
what i am responding to.

I have posted several positive threads for Hillary these last few days--from my perception.

If the subject line is snarkled i tend to think it is snarkled.
I just tire of it. simple as that. too many months of this crap.and i am guilty also. but i am trying to reform myself --but reform does not mean i will not hit back to the snarykiness.

and a good day to you also.it is snowing her all day. beautiful.

And yes, snow is beautiful i will agree, tho i see it far to often living in Norway(makes the fact that i hate the coldness of winter all the more sad since you'd think a 'Norse viking' would like the cold  )

110. Bingo.
And whats even worse is that she had the glaring "expertise" of Bill Clinton at her disposal. Yet between the two of them they couldnt even manage to put together a successful, well thought out campaign.

This should be a red flag to EVERYONE. A big gigantic scary red screaming flag. No biggie to camp Clinton though. Shes got "experience". Yeah. Experience making bad decisions. No thanks.

72. What a pathetic argument.
18 debates already and 2 more coming right up. And you're saying he "doesn't have to answer questions?". Please. Hillary is trying to manipulate Obamas schedule to keep him from campaigning, as well as scoring some free airtime for herself because her campaign has been so poorly managed that they're short on both money AND plans.

You think she'd be demanding a debate a day if she were ahead in this race? If you do, that shows how out there you are.

18. That's a pretty thin reed to hang on to - not very creative, either.
If they had never debated it would be one thing, but millions of people have seen 18 debates and there are two more to go. It's simply going to come off as an attempt to manufacture an attack and confirm the impression people likely have of the Clinton campaign so far in this primary season - all they can do is be negative.

162. A great deal of the country feels otherwise.
I don't need inspiration either, but there are a lot of demoralized folks who are looking for someone who speaks in a healing way, and yes, soothing and reconciling way.

People are genuinely traumatized, and unfortunately--through no fault of Sen. Clinton's, her own era in the White House was wrought with trauma for the nation, via the impeachment.

I was surprised to see how much people need to feel hope again. But there it is.

My first choice was Edwards.

91. Health care answers
I'm ready for Answers. Obama needs to answer as many as possible. Why? Because of people like me who are currently Hillary supporters.
His arrogance needs to be tamed. He made the comment that Hillary supporters will follow him but his supporters will not follow her.
Hold on Senator, not so fast. I'm not a supporter of yours and at this point will not vote for you if you win the nomination. This Democrat will
possible not vote for the first time since a college grad, and that was a long time ago. I can't in good conscience vote for someone so unproven.
I'm not looking for inspiration, I'm looking a president.

He needs to provide answers to his plans. Programs and policies would be nice. Forget the fluff, I've already heard all of that. I want a debate
pitting each candidate against one another on the issues with real answers.

Let's point one thing out that is fact. Each demographic area of this country has a different make up. What will work for the northeast may not work
other places. A program has to work nation wide. I laughed in one of the debates when Senator Obama stated that health care should not be mandatory, but only affordable.

He went on to say that if all Americans had the opportunity to attain health care at a reasonable cost certainly they would. Wake up Senator. The only way to
bring down health care is to stop some of the abuses of the uninsured and provide more insurance to the masses to bring down premiums.
As long as people can and will continue to walk into emergency rooms for a cough then health care reform will never work. Emergency room abuse needs to stop and as long as there are uninsured it will not.
I have employees that could have gotten affordable health care but refused it because it would mean they could not go to the club on Friday night in a new 200.00 outfit.
They will even put rent aside for the extra money to look good on a friday night so they can take 100.00 worth of pictures 4 times a year.

Obamas's plan assumes americans all have their priorities straight. I think not sir.

111. "It's about whether you should choose the power of speeches over the power of solutions," B.Clinton

Bill Clinton is campaigning across the state today, and is scheduled to speak at the UW-Madison Stock Pavilion, 1675 Linden Drive, at 2:15 p.m.
………

"It's about whether you should choose the power of speeches over the power of solutions," Clinton told several hundred people at the Italian Community Center.

Democratic campaign strategist Mike Tate said Bill Clinton could still draw crowds and serve as a powerful surrogate campaigner for his wife. The former president has played a less prominent role on the campaign trail recently, following remarks critical of Obama before the South Carolina primary that provoked fierce debate in the Democratic party about his role in the campaign.

"He's a tremendous asset," said Tate, who ran Howard Dean's 2004 primary campaign in Wisconsin but is not working for either candidate. "He's said some controversial things this cycle, but I still think he's a great asset for (his wife's) campaign."

Sorry Hillary, you had 18 debates. The obvious ruse of wanting a debate politically is ALWAYS when the opponent has run out of money.

Meanwhile, Obama has plenty of TV and radio ads going on. There are NO Hillary ads running so far.

116. Panic u say
Then I guess you feel Obama should continue with his empty promises and never have to fully explain his policies. Wouldn't you like
to know as much about his plans as possible. It's kind of like when a new friend enters your life. In the beginning they are the greatest because they are on their best behavior and don't want to expose themselves but over time they let down the guard and you see who they really are. Sometimes they are great and others not so much. I want to see and learn as much as possible. I think my tax dollars have earned me that right. Don't you ever question why so many foreign
leaders are in favor of Obama. Ask yourself that question. And if you believe it is for all the right reasons, then start doing your global research on his message verses hers.

Remember Poppy Bush? How he was too frightened to debate Bill Clinton. Clinton kept hammering away at him and Poppy was just too chickenshit to debate?

Obama is going to try and take a knee..all the way to the GE. He'll get eaten alive.

Surely even you don't want to make such a weak comparison. When you go to the doctor and are told you are sick. Do you ask how, why, and how do I cure or fix it. or do you just not care. Let's not ask Obama anymore question, let's just all have a big party and hope for the best. Not me. I want answers.

Clinton Wins N.M. Caucus Vote

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NEW_MEXICO_CAUCUSES?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=news_generic.htm

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico's Democratic party chairman announces Thursday that Hillary Rodham Clinton won the state's Democratic caucus.

A marathon vote-count that went on for nine days after the Feb. 5 election ultimately added one more delegate to her total. That gives Clinton 14 delegates from New Mexico to 12 for her rival Sen. Barack Obama.

161. ***New Obama Ad Responds to Clinton's call for Debate #21***
AdWatch: Obama Counters With Debate Ad
TITLE: "Debate"
LENGTH: 30 seconds
AIRING: Statewide in Wisconsin
SCRIPT: Male announcer: "After 18 debates, with two more coming, Hillary says Barack Obama is ducking debates? It's the same old politics, of phony charges and false attacks. On health care, even Bill Clinton's own Labor Secretary says Obama covers more people than Hillary and does more to cut costs, saving $2,500 for the typical family. Obama's housing plan — it stems foreclosures and cracks down on crooked lenders. That's change we can believe in.
Obama: "I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message."
KEY IMAGES: The ad opens with the words "18 DEBATES 2 MORE COMING." More than a dozen images from previous debates then appear one at a time as the announcer speaks. As the announcer talks about health care, the ad cuts to Obama speaking to people and the words "Obama covers 'more people' than Hillary" appear on the screen. The next shot is of Obama in a crowd of supporters with the words "Saves $2500 for a typical family." The Illinois senator is also shown on the steps of a house speaking to an audience with the words "Obama's housing plan 'stems foreclosures'" and "Cracks down on crooked lenders." This cuts to Obama shaking hands with supporters. The words "Change we can believe in" appear. The ad concludes with an image of him waving at an event.

164. Obamas hopecare plan
You can only cover more people if they accept your plan and buy into it. A large number of lower income Americans will not elect for insurance
even at reduced fees if it might cut into their play money. He is assuming that everyones priorities are straight. Not as long as there is the
option of the emergency room for a cough. Trust me my employees have the option of insurance, but most reject it for 200.00 outfits on friday night to go to the club. They go to the emergency room for a bruise and nver pay the bill.

True to some extent. Obama will not make it mandatory. Clintons plan will. I would rather know that insurance was coming out of my
check just as does social security and medicare than not to have it if I am crippled with a disabling disease. Hillary wants to make it mandatory,
Obama elective. Granted I don't like paying social security either. i could better spend that money some days when I want something, but I won't
feel that way at 64 when(if) I can collect. Same story. You do not miss what you don't have unitl you need it. Shut down needless emergency room
visits. That can't be done unless all Americans are insured. Until then those of us who are insured are going to pay higher premiums for
those who refuse to cover themselves. I see it every day.

Clinton Intends to Stand Her Ground in Wisconsin's Primary
Updated: Feb 13, 2008 10:25 AM CST
By Jeff Alexander

In one week, Wisconsin voters head to the polls to help influence who will ultimately run for the White House in November.
On the Democratic side, the race for president is very much up in the air. In a satellite interview, presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton promised a campaign stop in Green Bay before next Tuesday.

……….
"Of course, I think having the first woman president would be a huge change for our country and the world, but I also know I'm being judged on my own merits. I'm proud of the successes of my husband's administration, but we have new challenges and problems and new opportunities."
…………
"It's important we have a president who stands her ground. There's some ideas that are just bad ideas. That's why I stood against the Republicans when they tried to privatize Social Security. If they think that's polarizing, I think that's energizing, because we beat them. So I just believe it depends where you stand, and for Democrats, independent voters, and fair- minded Republicans, I have a proven track record of actually making change for people that I want to take to the White House."

And northeast Wisconsin will soon hear a lot more.
"I'll be there snow or not," she said.

her last health care plan features (in addition to "going after their wages":

$5,000 for refusing to join the government-mandated health plan

$5,000 for failing to pay the premiums on time

15 years to doctors who received "anything of value" in exchange for helping patients short-circuit the bureaucracy

$10,000 a day for faulty physician paperwork

$50,000 for unauthorized patient treatment

$100,000 a day for drug companies that messed up federal filings
