Where is Obama's web page on gay rights issues?
I found civil rights, disabilities, senior citizens, even faith, but am bothered that there appears to be nothing on gay rights issues. I just noticed this. Am I wrong?

By comparison, thought it was tricky to find, I did find a position paper on the Clinton site:

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/lgbt/

I support Obama, but after seeing this video of Donnie McClurkin (which I had never seen before) --

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4591752&mesg_id=4591752

-- I think Obama really needs to do a little more outreach to the glbt community. I don't think he has anything to lose, and I find it strange that he barely mentions gays and lesbians.

18. Because every one of his links have that format
For example:

The link to the "African Americans" page (located in the same way as one who put two seconds into it would find the LGBT page)
http://africanamericans.barackobama.com/page/content/afamhome

The link to the "Environmentalists" page
http://enviros.barackobama.com/page/content/enviroshome

The link to the "Women" page
http://women.barackobama.com/page/content/WFOhome

The link to the "Students" page
http://students.barackobama.com/page/content/sfbohome

Don't try to make something out of nothing. It should be beneath you.

19. Listen, you're way behind on this
The correct Clinton fake argument is as follows:

"Why is LGBT listed under 'people' rather than 'Issues' or 'Civil Rights????'"

3. Obama doesn't strike me as homophobic, but maybe he wants to avoid
extremely polarizing issues during the campaign. I am not saying it's right, but perhaps
that's an explanation?

5. If he won't stand with GLBT folks in an election will he stand FOR them if he wins?

Hillary is the only remaining candidate who can be trusted on GLBT issues.

7. I'm sorry, no. Clinton associates with a known homophobe.
And uses him on campaign appearances.

Expand Hate Crimes Statutes
In 2004, crimes against LGBT Americans constituted the third-highest category of hate crime reported.
Obama co-sponsored legislation to expand federal hate crimes law to include crimes perpetrated
because of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Fight Workplace Discrimination and Promote Rights
Obama believes the Employment Non-Discrimination Act should be expanded to include sexual orienta-
tion and gender identity. Obama sponsored legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would ban employ-
ment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples
Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples equal legal rights and privileges as
married couples, including the right to assist their loved ones in times of emergency as well as equal
health insurance, employment benefits, and property and adoption rights. Obama also believes we need
to fully repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal
legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex
couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions.

Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage
Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would have defined marriage as between
a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmar-
ried couples.

Repeal Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell
Obama believes we need to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The key test for military service
should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Obama will work with military leaders
to repeal the current policy and ensure we accomplish our national defense goals.

Fight AIDS Worldwide
Obama has been a global leader in the fight against AIDS. He traveled to Kenya and took a public HIV
test to encourage testing and reduce the stigma of the disease. Obama worked to reauthorize the Ryan
White CARE Act,one of the largest sources of federal funds for primary health care and support services
for HIV/AIDS patients.

I support him, but I don't hold him up as a saint. I'm gay and this issue concerns me, but I support him regardless because I don't think he's homophobic, but I do think he's making a strategic decision to woo religious folk more than gay folk.

Also, too bad his gay issues page has a different URL. You can't find it, I think, unless you know to put in "pride."

11. So ... no thank yous or oops I was wrong response?
Did you really want to know about Obama's postions on gay issues on his web site? Because several posters, including myself have given the clear links, and yet there is silence.

I hate to accuse this of being a hit and run post ... but I've been waiting for twenty minutes to see if you would respond to the answers to your question. Maybe a bathroom break?

Go to www.barackobama.com and click on the "People" drop down menu. Right there, clear as day, in alphabetical order between "Latinos" and "People of Faith".
