You're just not a very nice person, are you? Everything you spew is negative & hateful.

Even though she's stoned as hell in that old hippy pic of her and Bill.

9. I don't see that as decriminalizing pot! I think they SHOULD decriminalize |
|
pot. I've never smoked it, but I've heard the majority of people in our jails & prisons are there for some link to possession or selling MJ. To me THAT is just dumb. BUT...having said that, it would be political suicide for any candidate to say that before the election. To be successful in that effort, a President will have to win a lot of initial battles and get approval ratings up NICE & HIGH, THEN they could push something like that through...MAYBE!
Besides, I though I read somewhere that police & DEA officers are pretty much looking the other way as long as they believe the person using is ligitimately sick.

12. In the 1st video Obama said "We need to decriminalize our marijuana laws". |
|
It can't get much clearer than that.
By the way, the American people support decriminalizing marijuana by staggering margins. Over 70% of Americans think people should just get the equivalent of a parking ticket if they're caught with it.
Personally, I think it should be legal, taxed and regulated, but Obama's position is the closest to mine out of any of the candidates, and if we free up our prisons and stop charging users with felony convictions (which is routinely done here in AZ if you aren't white), that's a good start.

8. Don't know, but I applaud Obama for saying he would. |

People don't realize that the difference between "decriminalization" and "legalization" is not just semantics.

but you know the Republicans will use this for ammunition if he gets the nomination. I'm hoping the economy and Iraq will make voters too concerned about our REAL problems to have an issue like that sway them.

18. Well, I think we can hope they won't notice it. |
|
But I suppose we'll see if he gets the nomination. I think, even if i'm being a little generous, that the majority of people have become wise to the republican dirty tricks campaign and can see the real issues.

15. I THINK decriminilization means FINES if you're caught, but no |

jail time. Legalization means it would fall into the same catagory as alcohol...legal but controlled.

16. Exactly, as far as I know. |
|
Which is still not far enough, IMO, but I'm not holding my breath for legalization any time in this lifetime. But I know i'd prefer if our jails weren't so clogged up with marijuana offenders that we can't focus on say, the rapists and murderers.

I wish he would continue to be in favor of decriminalization. And I wish Hillary would come out in favor of decriminalization. Putting people in jail for pot possession is ridiculous. http://reason.com/news/show/124769.html

Like he is in favor of decriminalizing pot, but doesn't want to bring it up during an election.
Primary bickering aside... I think that's going to be the only way we're ever going to get it decriminalized.

"If you're convicted of a crime, you should be punished, but that we are sending far too many first-time, nonviolent drug users to prison for very long periods of time, and that we should rethink those laws,
the very last thing they say regarding this is "rethink those laws" hmm

21. As someone said upthread, there is a difference between decriminalizing and |
|
legalizing. But you can bet that the Repukes will conflate the two terms and have Obama legalizing not just marijuana, but all mood-altering drugs currently available and available in the future. They will yell "slippery slope" and talk about how drug crazed addicts are raping our women and killing our children.
I'm happy to see that Obama has a position on this, but can also understand why he doesn't shout it from the rooftops.
