1. He hasn't slashed and burned it
There's something daunting about calling for mandates during the primary season. He's taking an incremental approach at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if he accepts mandates eventually.

7. What utter hypocrisy. NEITHER candidate supports Universal Healthcare. Get a grip
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 05:37 PM by K Gardner
before you embarass yourself posting flamebait tripe like this. Both candidates are offering some version of Universal Insuranceand Hillary wants to impose Mandates (which have not worked thus far in implementation). Slam the health plans either way if you feel you must denigrate the candidates on this issue, but NEITHER of them are offering Universal healthcare, only access to it in some form.

Edited to add: Since when is universal HEALTHCARE a "democratic ideal"?? The last time we had serious discussions about this issue on DU, fully 50% of the posters A)had no idea what HR 676 was or B) Did not support it.

12. watch, you will make Hillary cry. Only Conyers offers UHC
and Bill/Hillary ran on the promise of UHC two times and never delivered, because
there wasn't a majority dem congress.

Now why wasn't there a majority dem congress? Maybe something called a "Big State" strategy.

9. Secularism, Inclusiveness, Accountability
His was the very best rebuttal of the ugliness of the Iran "Sense", pointing out the obvious first point, which was the reconfiguring of our military with an eye toward Iran, but somehow couldn't deign to even vote on the damned thing. Why? Was it to have it both ways? Doesn't he "get" that standing up and casting a decisive vote is what statesmanship is all about?

As for his flirting with religion, it's more than just a passing fancy, and it's antithetical to pluralism.

Then there's that inclusiveness issue as displayed in the 40 days of faith expediency.

These are not small issues.

10. PurityofEssence nails it. Once again.
The Iran vote and the public religiosity. Among other things.

11. Neither he nor Hillary offer Universal Health Care. Rep Conyers has a bill for Universal HC.
I guess you don't know what Universal Health Care is.

What it isn't is - INSURANCE!

Hillary's plan is like MittCare, and since it was implimented, the cost of
health insurance has gone up - but its still mandatory to buy it.
