Obama leads McCain in Colorado, poll shows

A new poll by the national opinion firm Rasmussen Reports shows that the Democrats have a shot at carrying Colorado for the first time in 16 years in the November presidential election, but that chance depends almost entirely on the party’s eventual nominee. Asking respondents who they would vote for today in a head-to-head match-up, the poll shows that Barack Obama has a seven point lead in Colorado over John McCain, 46 percent to 39 percent. If Hillary Clinton turns out to be the party’s eventual nominee, McCain begins the race with a 14-point lead, 49 percent to 35 percent. Those results partly reflect the negative impression that many Coloradoans have of Clinton compared to the other two candidates.
