My little plea to both campaigns -- Don't just put Bandaids on a tumor
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 02:14 PM by Armstead
Over the last 35 years we've created a monster that doesn't really care which party is in power.

We've turned over government to monopolistic mega-multinational corporations, global capital that follows its own rules and a set of values that puts the real concerns of real people at the end of the line of priorities.

Until the Democratic Party and its leadership address these very real issues in a fundamental way, it will continue to offer micro solutions that accomplish nothing.

Whichever becomes the nominee -- I hope like hell that we'll actually start to address this need for fundamental liberal/progressive reform and the use of the "bully pulpit", instead of continuing to put bandaids on a tumor.

4. I think we need some "radical" progressivism...
...not just baby steps. And not just the US, either. If the nations of the world don't get together soon and start working some of the problems out in a way that benefits ALL the citizens of this planet, none of us will still be around to talk about it. I seriously worry about what kind of a world we're leaving our grandchildren.

(Gotta admit, National Geographic has been scaring the crap out of me lately.)

5. There are global movements about this
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 02:20 PM by Armstead
In that sense, the US is still lagging.

"Globalization" and "free trade" have been mainstream debates in many countries for years.

8. I know...
Sometimes it's really embarrassing to be a citizen of this egocentric country.

7. Nice try Armstead
Your heart is in the right place, but with Edwards gone, the belief that either Obama or Hillary will take real steps to release the death grip of Corporations from their unbridled power, is a DREAM.

9. But we gotta keep whacking away at it
Slowly, I think it's at least beginning to get through. At least they're talking about NAFTA and outsourcing and China these days.

Every little bit helps.

10. It's up to US now because the Dem party has sold us out to the corporations.
We need to learn from countries like France. Where the government fears the people. Not the people fearing the government.

Nothing will change until the majority of people are absolutely miserable. Given the state of the economy, that may happen sooner than we all think.

11. The more of us press....
As an individual I have to plead.

But if enough people stop acquiescing and start to push, we can collectively begin to demand that the Democratic Party start to represent us again.
