Poll question: Have you ever changed your vote because of negative posts on DU's GD:P forum? |
|
Long ago I got sick of hearing that one candidate will eat our children or that the other one will pimp them out. It's senseless bullshit at worst and someone's emotionally-charged opinion at best. If a candidate is really good, you wouldn't have to attack the other candidates. A good example was Joe Biden: he is/was a great candidate and his supporters were committed to positivity. The negativity has always been about Barack Obama vs. Hillary Clinton They probably do it because they think it's effective. Surely there are many who read these threads without posting.
I have to wonder how many use it as a factor in deciding who to vote for. I'm interested in find out if anyone here has ever changed your vote based on this negative info you get from posts. Remember that just about anyone could post anything on a public internet forum. Many of the links provided as "sources" are to other threads on this same site or to other blogs or opinion pieces.
so, have you ever changed your vote because of negative posts here on GD:P?

Candidates have turned me off on their own, but I don't hold them responsible for their supporters turning me off.

that I've been put off by some of Obama's more over-the-top supporters. I know it isn't his fault and he doesn't really have any control over them, but it's been my experience that if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Blind devotion without critical analysis raises my skepticism meter. Most of Hillary's supporters seem to have a bit more realistic opinion of their candidate, accepting the fact that she has flaws.
Before anybody jumps all over me, note the word "some." This is not a blanket condemnation.
And I will vote for our nominee, no matter who.

7. tweety said it best "the human reaction to intimidation is 'screw you'" |

negative posts cause people to become more entrenched in their opinions, not less
how anyone could not extrapolate this position from the ridiculous threads recently at DU is beyond me. obama went from just another candidate to being compared to some of the worst despots in human history, as has hillary! and when you read these types of posts about your candidate, you're not thinking "hey, maybe obama IS like hitler!" you're actually thinking "pfft. SCREW YOU".

my vote is the candidates. However, most of what I have learned about these candidates is a result of being spurred to seek and find because of smear tactics posted here. DU for whatever reason has always been a great learning experience, even if there are some things I would rather not have learned.

6. 95% of GD:P is either spin or pure bullshit. |
|
If someone posts something that might influence my decision, I go off and research it, and every single time it turns out to be complete crap.

16. I already didn't want to vote for Obama for a variety of reasons |
|
But a number of his supporters here reinforced that. They think they can bully people into voting for HOPE and CHANGE but they're dead wrong.

17. I joined DU as a result of the madness |
|
I just couldn't stand hearing the Obama supporters bash Hillary...plus seeing her lose the recent primaries....I was pretty emotional and angry....
I told my husband that I refused to vote for Obama...I have been a very loyal moderate democratic woman for 20 years...and I was feeling stepped on and stepped over. I even looked at John Mccain's site.....for me, a moderate leftie, many of his issues are palatable. I slapped myself back to reality when I realized that McCain would just bend to the will of the far right. (confirmed by his recent vote on water boarding)
I liked Obama before I started reading DU, but honestly felt that I did not want his supporters to "win" after readin DU...
The negativity certainly does not win anyone over....quite the opposite....but it is my opinion that people really just use other loyal dems as punching bags for their frustration ...similar to how people often treat their family worse than strangers...it just creates disfunction though.
