33. Here's the difference in a nutshell: |
|
Hillary and Bill spent 8 years selling progressives down the river.
Obama has not spent 8 years selling progressives down the river.
There's a 100% chance Hillary will sell us out if she gets elected.
There's say, an 80% Obama will sell us out if he gets elected.
Hillary and Bill have capitulated and compromised all the way.
Obama talks about cooperation, which isn't the same thing at all.
Comprende?

What kind of fighting has she don these past 7 years?!
What can she claim leadership on during her 7 years in the Senate?
What has she done aside from:
- Posturing, triangulating and word spinning (yes, her words are cheap)
- Claiming thirty-five years experience? Hmmm... at least 20 as First Lady to WJC's elected positions.
- Being for the war (repeatedly and from the start) before she was against it. She only changed her tune when her stance was at odds with the popular opinion and would threaten/compromise her POTUS ambition
- Claiming to fight for the little people while supporting corporations and the bankruptcy bill that favored them
- Claiming she's ready on day one when hey, she wasn't even ready for a formidable opponent in the primaries

consider Tom Paine's "Common Sense" on bolstering patriot moral during the darkest days of the Revolution as another example.
I believe people should be judged on their actions as well their words, but having said that I wouldn't discount the power of good words.

19. What are the actions Obama is offering? |
|
Jefferson, Paine, Henry, and the others backed their words up with real action. :wtf: is "hope and change", "yes we can"? Compare that to "we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal...". The Founding Fathers, and other greats, like MLK, had words that had real meaning. Obama uses slogans and avoids specifics on issues.

were marginalized and or ignored by the corporate media, so at this point soaring rhetoric is all I have left.
Today I believe if Obama used specifics, he would be trashed by the corporate media as well so I admit it's a bit of a gamble. If I remember correctly FDR governed far more progressively than his first campaign indicated.

It steams my greens that some folks here don't get that talk is NOT cheap.
MLK was SHOT for speaking out. People have been sent to gulags and concentration camps for speaking out.
Writing the declaration was an act of political courage that changed world history.
Sorry, but if people don't get that they should either pack up and leave, or go back and complete their GEDs. :P

let's see: JFK was a war hero, reporter, congressman, senator, lived overseas for a few years, oh, and he had a pulitzer prize, all before he was forty. Tj was a farmer, lawyer, writer, philosopher, state senator, and general public genius. And then he wrote the words above, before he was thirty.
So not much, really.

a well to do family with major political connections. I agree with you on Thomas Jefferson as well, but he also had his dark side, and the world was a much smaller place then, the total population of the colonies was microscopic compared to today's, hence a younger educated man had a much better chance of making a major impact.
Both Thomas Jefferson and JFK were men of eloquence, courage, vision and great intellect, but I believe eliminating the possibility that Obama could be in their league is premature.
