Clinton or Obama Help me decide
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 11:33 AM by pf99
Ok DU'ers I having a hard time making a decision between Clinton or Obama.

I live in NE Ohio and have been struggling with this decision. I know whoever wins the Ohio primary will have leg up on the nomination and most certainly the presidency. So I am asking the supporter's of Senator Clinton and Senator Obama to make their case. Please nothing negative, I like them both and that is why I am struggling with the decision.

A little about myself
My first choice was Joe Biden (in fact I was elected a Biden delegate).

The most important issue is end the War in Iraq quickly and responsibly. In my opinion this issue trumps the economy as we are spending 20 billion a month on this mess and until we fix that problem it will be hard to grow the economy.

Next important is the economy and jobs. Especially creating jobs here in NE Ohio.

I was leaning towards Senator Obama but then went to see Senator Clinton last night and I am totally undecided.

Thanks for your help I hope to decide early next week and send in my absentee ballot.

1. Pick your three most urgent issues then align the candidates with their
positions on those issues.

I think either one would defeat McCain.

An Edwards refugee, I'm supporting Obama.

2. For such a well written question, it's a surprise to see Sen. Biden's name misspelled in your post.

9. Happens to everyone!
BTW, as a former Edwards supporter, married to former Biden, now Obama supporter, I am now supporting Sen. Clinton, although I'll be fine with voting for Obama if he's our GE nominee.

My post from yesterday.

However you vote, any vote's a good vote. :-)

4. I was for Biden originally
then had to choose between Edwards and Obama when Biden dropped out.

I chose Obama.

Now, on what basis do you want to make your choice... list the things that are important to YOU and I'll try to make a case for Obama... I'm sure others will do the same for Hillary.

5. My advice:
1. Try to see Obama too, if you can. He's going to be in Ohio starting Monday (Youngstown).
Here's Obama's Ohio page for reference. http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/ohhome

2. Take a look at these sites.

Both Obama and Hillary want us out of Iraq ASAP. The other guy, not so much. We need to keep the other guy from getting elected. So far, only one of our candidates looks like they can get that done.

7. ...end the war responsibly
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 11:45 AM by RiverStone
As you know, Obama was against the war from the get-go.

Hillary authorized Shrub to take action, when 23 other Senators felt for damn good reason (and voted) that Shrub should NOT have the authority. Hillary refuses to acknowledge her IWR was a mistake....often repeated points in DU and elsewhere. Both candidates are strong on ending the war, yet only Obama has no connection to starting it.

She'd make a great senate leader or Secretary of State.

Obama is the only candidate - probably in a generation - that can really - REALLY bring this country together!

And, he can win!

Best wishes in your choice! :patriot:

8. Obama can win!
Despite all the accusations, there really isn't a lot of difference on the issues. The big difference between the two is electability. Obama is beating Hillary two to one with independents in the primaries. Clinton has unfavorable ratings around 50%.

10. This election is to pick the most qualified candidate for President.
Not American Idol.

So if you want someone with the experience to transform any hope for change into REAL CHANGES, then Clinton is your candidate. Granted, I'm a pragmatist and pragmatism isn't cool. It isn't fashionable, doesn't play well to the crowd or to the media. Doesn't make for sound bytes or catchy slogans. Shoot, on a personal level I'd don't even particularly LIKE Hillary Clinton, but as an adult I also realize this is not a high school popularity contest. It's an election for the chief executive of the United States.

Hillary Clinton has endured the relentless villification by the neocons and media for over twenty years and she's still standing, still fighting. That tells me a lot. That's why the RW both hates and fears her. There won't be any surprises they can suddenly dig up during the general election -- they've already slung all the mud they had in their buckets and know she can take it.

Clinton's smart, tough, experienced, and I have full confidence she can hit the ground running. That's what we need to climb our way out of the total mess the Bushriech has created. There is no time to waste. And no matter how appealing a message of "hope" might be, I'm someone who would prefer RESULTS. The Presidency is no office for on-the-job training, especially not now.

11. Former Edwards backer here
:hi:

I am supporting Senator Obama because I believe he has the energy behind him to motivate people to the polls in November. There is an excitement in the air right now, but the primaries will soon be over. I think he has the best shot of carrying that crowd through to November.
