Kucinich to reveal details of secret U.S. nuclear wars

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 14, 2004

WHAT: Press conference
WHO: Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich and Dr. Doug Rokke, PhD
WHERE: University of Illinois, Champaign Campus, Illini Student Unit, Pine Room
WHEN: Monday, March 15th, 7:00 PM

Champaign, Ill. Democratic Congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich will hold a press conference Monday to detail little-known information about the nuclear content and life-threatening effects of U.S. munitions that are being used in Iraq and Afghanistan and which have been used in other military conflicts beginning with the 1991 Gulf War.

Joining Kucinich will be Dr. Doug Rokke, PhD, retired Army combat officer, and one of the world's leading experts on the use of munitions containing radioactive depleted uranium (DU). He served as a member of the U.S. Army Medical Command's Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) special operations and teaching team during the Gulf War. He is a confirmed casualty of poisoning by DU, which has a half life of 4.5 billion years.

Kucinich is expected to discuss the devastating health consequences suffered by American servicemen and women and their families and by civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Serbia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere because of DU munitions used by the U.S. and other nations.

Kucinich is also expected to outline a plan to provide medical testing and care to all military personnel, veterans and others who have been exposed, as well as demand that the U.S. and other responsible governments perform complete environmental remediation wherever military forces have used DU munitions.

"Depleted uranium weapons are an unacceptable threat to life, a violation of international law, and an assault on human dignity," says Kucinich. "We have an obligation to do what is right for our servicemen and women, for our children and our grandchildren, and for all citizens of the world. We must ban the use of depleted uranium in our military and worldwide; we must provide medical care to all DU casualties; and we must clean up all the places where we’ve used this poison that has the power to kill for countless generations, far into the future."

6. This Is Only ONE Reason Dennis Should Get The HELL OUT
DU as part of the Democratic Platform... great job Dennis!

Nothing like helping make Democrats look weak on defense.... not like the GOP has already made the public buy that nonsense.

So Dennis wants the Democrats to open up the US Government to all kinds of law suits just before one of the most important elections in our nation's history.

To think I once supported Dennis.

God help us.

before someone showed up to say how little it matters that we poison generations of innocents.

Some would say the most important election was the last one. Remember, the one the Democrats failed to defend after they won it?

on edit: a helpful hint to those not paying attention:

"We're talking about the essential mission of government -- and John Kerry is going to need a lot of help. He may not be able to say the things he needs to say, so we need to say the things that must be said. We need to present the issues. We need to set the priorities of our party, and we need to set a direction for the Democratic Party, so when people come in November they’ll be lining up outside the polls." -- Dennis Kucinich in speech to PUSH Coalition.

9. I Knew It Would Be Mere Minutes
Before someone misrepresented my comments.

Where did I even imply "how little it matters that we poison generations of innocents"?.

NOWHERES.

There is a time and place for everything and Dennis is unable to use his god given capacity for discrimination.

Deplete Uranium is a LOSING TOPIC FOR DEMOCRATS IN 2004.

To bring it up now is counterproductive and STUPID.

10. Silliness
If you choose not to point out the problem, you are complicit in it. That is how bashing Dennis for DARING to mention this problem is saying it just doesn't matter.

How is DU a losing topic? Are the Republicans any different? Okay, then.

Kerry's supporters would do well to choose their battles wisely.

18. If Dennis Doesn't Understand The Importance Of Timing
He has NO BUSINESS being in Politics.

Have you tried to get on a moving train or out of a riptide by swimming straight to shore?

Furthermore, your conclusion is erroneous.

Where did I say Democrats choose not to point out any problem?

NOWHERES.

Once again, you try to mischaracterize what I said.

In addition, there may or may NOT be a problem with DU.

A lot of what I've read has been false information about airborn DU and DU, as used by American troops, doesn't go into the air.

But I'm sure Dennis and his sychophants will take the information given as gospel, no matter how incomplete or faulty, because Amercian is evil and its Military is doubly so.

This is one of the reasons America is the pariah of the world...and Dennis shouldn't mention it and help make sure that the Democrats are on the right side of this issue??????

Kerry is going to have one HUGE task as President repairing international relations,,,and this can give us a teeny bit of goodwill back if we act on it!!

Dennis is GOOD for Democrats AND good for humanity!!Dennis, once again,:yourock:

26. Idiotic Charges?
I was just curious and couldn't help myself to see what nonsense would be posted.

Asserting DU is toxic (by the way, it hasn't been proven YET) would mean opening our Government up to lawsuits and liability.

You think that's a winning issue for Democrats?

NOWHERE in my post did I say:

The toxicity of DU shouldn't be investigated
The US Government shouldn't be criticized
The US Government is incapbable of prevaricating

27. ah, but you were
it opens the government up to liability (when they do wrong you want to ignore it or cover it up). It's toxicity HAS been proven, but there have not been direct tests. DU emits radiation, that is not in doubt. Exposure to the amounts of radiation present can be toxic and dangerous. I DID NOT say that you said the government wasn't capable of lying, but you're seeking to shield it when it has done wrong...and it has.

and yes, your charges are idiotic since you have nothing with which to back it up.

The only nonsense posted thusfar eminates from your posts insofar as I can see

33. I think you're missing Redqueen's point
Let's put it this way... who would you like to bring it up better: Nader or Kucinich?

I think Kucinich is raising a good issue, in a campaign that needs to focus on issues - and I think he deserves the spotlight.

It's the same spotlight that drives Kerry forward, waltzing over Nader's insignificant hiney.

21. Where Did I Say That, NOWHERES
and the responses to my comment are typical of the kneejerk Left.

Sickening.

My comments weren't terribly complicated or hard to understand.

I'll repeat myself just one more time before giving up on this thread...

DU is a losing issue for the 2004 Election.

If, and it is still an IF even though your god Dennis thinks otherwise, DU is in fact the cause of what SOME people THINK it is, then the US Government will be liable.

For Kerry to address this, BEFORE the 2004 Election would be insane.

But then, the Kneejerk Left likes being losers... it feels so much better to whine about being victims.

why is DU a losing issue? What is wrong about wanting to protect US troops? What is wrong about wanting to protect the environment around the world?

"your God Dennis" "Kneejerk Left" "whine about being victims" these could have been taken right from freerepublic, and the sentiments of your post as well.

You're completely and deliberately missing the point, way to go!

31. Hey, CS, dry your tears.
DU is NOT a losing issue. Jim McDermott talks about it, and will likely continue to do so in his 2004 campaign. Do you think that he is going to lose? If so, I beg to differ.

Furthermore, if coverup and/or avoiding the facts and shirking any investigation into the truth of the horrors of war for greed are the only way for the Democrats to win, they don't deserve to win.

This country and the planet will likely still be around in 2005,
now is not the time to avoid important issues with election year jive.

Show a little courage; have a little faith.

The expediency of the death and suffering of innocents for the comfort of the self-proclaimed saviors of democracy is a quaint notion. Let the world suffer on, for a "safe" election must be run. Some would sell this message. We don't have to buy it.

29. No this is exactly why I am glad he ran
People are misinformed as to the nature of those weapons. We have over 9000 disabled veterans as a result of Gulf War I and it took ten years to even acknowledge veterans were suffering diseases as a result of their service in that war.

We will have even MORE as a result of this war. Informing America of the manner in which they poison not only the planet but their own troops is important..especially when the cuts to the VA kick in right on time for these vets to require treatment.

I keep sending everything I've got to the Kucinich campaign.

DENNIS IS NEVER AFRAID TO ADDRESS AN ISSUE. He doesn't sweep anything under the rug; he's out there with what we need to pay attention to, to deal with, to make us a more humane nation and planet. Every time.

And note the quotes from Dennis above; he is more than aware, and public, with the role he is playing in the campaign at this moment. He has willingly said what no one else can or will say. And if he were not saying it, who would? Would low-level nuclear exposure to our troops and our civilians continue to be swept under the rug?

37. The "From the Wilderness" people who went to pre-war Iraq said
that the monumental increase in childhood cancer there was directly traceable to the DU we dropped during the FIRST Iraq war.ALL of the kids had levels of radiation in their bodies that other children not exposed to the bombing didn't.
Then Bush denied them the chemotherapy drugs the U. S. companies have developed to cure childhood leukemia by making the UN say they couldn't get them with the oil money under the sanctions.(A LOT of pressure applied to the UN)

So we killed the children twice.
