Hillary cancels Monday WI appearance. Is she giving up?
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 05:05 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
The campaign appearance of Senator HIllary Clinton in Eau Claire
this Monday has been cancelled.

Local Clinton campaign spokesperson Lori Scott told TV-13 News that
she received notice of the cancellation late Friday night. The reasons
were not totally made clear by higher campaign officials, but Scott
inferred that the decision centered around the high number of
appearances on the senator's schedule elsewhere.

Clinton had been scheduled to hold a town hall style meeting at
Memorial High School between 1:00pm and 3:00pm Monday.

More:

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton has scaled back her Wisconsin campaign schedule by a full day, and is now planning to leave the state after Monday morning instead of Tuesday morning.

The move suggests the campaign does not think it can overtake rival Barack Obama here. Obama has already campaigned in the state Tuesday night, Wednesday, Friday, and today. He also has single events planned for Sunday (Kaukauna) and Monday (Beloit).

86. I have to laugh
I cannot believe she DIDNT contest Wisconsin, what a boo boo, i guess she didnt want to lose a contest and then NOT win OHIO and TX, but damn shes staying in anyhow, I think she must be damn close to all the money she has (that is its already allocated). One thing I dont agree with her though is sending surragates out to give these points about why this or that state didnt matter, I didnt hear OBAMA say that.

93. It fits the pattern though, still sticking to the BIG STATE strategy.
All you others ('cept NM, of course!) just don't count.

Less snarkily, however, she's really up against the wall here and just has to hope to pull out something of a win (vote or delegates) in TX and OH or she's a tostada! Can't blame her for putting all she's got into her last stand.

Gonna be tough to give a speech at the Dem dinner though with everyone already knowing she's fleeing the state, especially after saying she was going to spend 4 days in WI.

It's gotta suck to be her right now.

:dem:

12. she's smart
with the tightness in the polls, she'd end up splitting the delegates with Barack whether she wins or loses, so she might as well focus on Ohio and Texas, consolidate her leads there, perhaps even strengthen or expand them and make up some of the delegate-deficit with those two States.

Not really.
Firstly, it'll still be played as a loss within the media, which will be 9 (most likely 10 with Hawaii) in a row for her. You can't spin that news. Secondly, this is a state she can actually win, but if she's pulling back, it shows me she's expecting a loss. If Obama wins Wisconsin, the news will be how he did extremely well in a state that favors Hillary demographically. Remember, Wisconsin is 92% white and has a very large blue collar, union population. That's supposed to be her base, which appears to be eroding and if she loses, even by 1%, it's hard to spin it.

But most importantly, it's very possible this costs her 5 or so points and if Obama's lead is 5 points, which it appears to be, she could end up losing by double digits. That she does not need.

82. She needs to stop the 20-point blowouts
People talk about how the media is favoring Obama, but I've seen little mention of the fact that she's getting MASSACRED in all these states. Not just losing, but losing HUGHLY.

If she could keep her loss in Wisconsin to a small margin, that might staunch the bleeding slightly.

6. Winning Wisconsin would be some good news for her campaign after weeks and weeks of bad news
Who knows why should isn't even putting out the effort.

This is her chance to get people's minds of Barrack Obama leading up to March 3.

But instead she'd rather use the Guilani strategy.

112. It could be without much ground game there she can't muster big crowds and GOTV
all that takes time. she has time before OH, TX and PA, she doesn't in WI. maybe that's why she's leaving, because there's little she can do to affect the outcome there.

she demands a debate cuz "the people of Wisconsin deserve to hear their issues discussed" but cancels a town hall meeting where she would be talking directly to the people about the issues that concern them??

I can see where/how she got the American Evita title.

Really rodeodance, you have gone above and beyond the call of loyalty to your candidate, it sucks that she is not as loyal.

Bill Clinton just spoke in Amarillo and is now headed to Lubbock. He'll end the day in Austin. All that, despite the early day forecasts for icy rain here, plus tornado warnings for Austin:

66. Sorry, you're right

I live in the DFW area and we don't get snow. We get a little ice, though no big ice storms this year. Still, no one should be diminishing Texas thunderstorms, they can easily be very nasty.

70. Flying in any sort of inclement weather is dangerous
Let's not forget that fog was the reason JFK Jr. perished in a plane crash.

I don't like any of them risking their lives for a campaign. May they all be safe and wise in their travels.

104. Hey, every 5-10 years we get enough to collect from car hoods to make a few snowballs!!
December 31, 2000, being one such occasion.

Get an ice storm about that often, too, and since 25% of the drivers have never driven on ice, well, it's a friggin demolition derby on the main roads.

Those storms did pass through Texas the past 12 hours, and it got pretty ugly, didn't it?

I guess tornadoes are irrelevant. Nobody every gets hurt in a tornado.

I am sorry you will have bad weather.

64. Not her last stand but it is the beginning of the end for her.
Because when the T.V. Machine shows the map all for Obama
form Illinois and Iowa then north to Wisconsin and west to
Washington (Except for Montana .... which hasn't voted ) and the
great plains to the inter mountain west all for Obama too ...
the floodgates will be opened up and Hillary will be swept
away.

I live in Ohio and Obama will play real well here.

96. And that would be a mistake on her part
Because each day more and more people and endorsements will be
coalescing around Obama and going too negative about the person
the majority of people see as the "leader" of the party will drag her
down more.

The only thing I see stopping Barack now is a major mistake or real dirt
from his past coming out.

76. Do you live anywhere near Wisconsin?
The storm warning is for Sunday. By Monday afternoon, the streets should be clear. We Midwesterners are used to snow and our cities are prepared for it, we aren't like down south where an inch of snow paralyzes the entire place.

84. President George H W Bush is going to endorse McCain on Monday.
Maybe she's going to see what that coronation looks like.

After Bush's machine called McCain all those names in 2000 and slimed McCain with everything they had, this party is going to be more nervous than a shotgun wedding in Utah between a man and his daughter.

when a candidate is on the rocks, they need to reach out to voters -- not desert the state.

IF O beats her the 19th, then wins either Texas or Ohio, it's over whether she concedes or not.

105. It is not about the weather. It appears that the new campaign management
realizes that the juxtaposition of huge Obama events next to Clintons is having a disastorous effect and that they are moving away from all large events.

Its her "big state strategy" kicking in again. Plus she is outta money and internal polls probably show her losing the state.

Thats just my guess.
