just kidding..
I would like to discuss the issue of Obama's "coolness" and i welcome all opinions. Please be respectful to others(thats to both sides).
I have heard a few Clinton supporters talk about what they feel is the false glitz and coolness and Obama and how this quality is not presidential in nature or at least not substantial enough on its own.
To those who say this, i would suggest that you are not listening to the content of his core message. Obama is not cool or hip by any stretch of the imagination. But to me, it is cool that someone on the public stage is not only speaking out against the things that Ive always considered wrong(big money influence, fear mongering, divisiveness). I think its cool that he wants to end the Iraq war NOW. I think its cool that he wants to seek justice and equality for ALL Americans. Mostly, i think its cool that these are the things that are core to his message.
So in summary, I'm a 30ish suedo-hippo in hiding. I think its cool that i can "come out of the closet" :)
Hillary supporters, i love you all. Ive said some crappy things out of anger and id like to appologise. I'm also sorry that you cant find what your looking for with Obama.

3. I don't think Obama is cool either. |
|
thanks for the apology; many of us have posted things on these boards that we regret.
And I've found what I'm looking for with Hillary :) No, she's not perfect; I'm aware of her flaws. Obama has his, too. But I honestly believe she's who we need in the White House.
However, I will support the Democratic nominee, whoever wins this thing.

i think that preference and difference of view are key to the survival of a democracy. Its like competition in the idea industry.
Good luck to Hillary
Go Obama!

7. I wish that I was cool enough to support obama |
|
but I,m not. I don't think there is a core message to Obama its all smoke and mirrors to me and I don't see a real person there, just some PR creation based on focus groups and wishful thinking. But then I'm an old fart and I actually remember JFK and I went to a RFK rally the week before he was shot. But I didn't much like RFK either. Camelot was always phony and based on image and not reality.

10. hmm, sounds like cynicism |
|
cynicism is a sorry kind of wisdom. His core message exists and is brilliant. My point is that if you think that its a hollow shell, you are the one getting tangled up in the excitement. Just consider that it may be possible and read his policy statements.
If your immune to the influence then there is no risk in reading.

8. He seems a little like a Type "B" personality to me |
|
Certainly he's driven to excellence. But he seems to be quietly confident as well.
I suppose most people are a blend. So perhaps he's just a Type B who is able to recognize the opportunities in challenges - which would be a pretty healthy attitude as far as I'm concerned.

9. I have few complaints with Obama |
|
I would like to see Hillary as my president. I do see that our nominee may be Obama. I'm coming to terms with that. It won't be difficult for me to support him if that is how it all turns out.
My complaint is more with some Obama supporters who I suspect may support Obama because he's packaged more to their liking rather than studying both candidates and deciding, on a more substantive level, that they prefer Obama over Hillary. I'm not one of the Clinton supporters who thinks there is something unpresidential about Obama. I think he is fine. I think both candidates have strong ambitions to be POTUS and they do and say things that people running for political office do. Some things said are misleading or oversimplifications. I see both candidates doing this; it's all part of campaigning and I fault them not. I don't like what I see from both supporters---minimizing the opponent's accomplishments and in other ways being dismissive.
I have to try hard to separate Obama from some of his most irksome supporters. But I know in the end, if he becomes our nominee, I'll support him.

A statement you made is telling. I think that both supporters have been crappy, me included. Its been like the Israelis and the Palestinians. I cant say for sure who started it but I got pissed because of what some HRC supporters said and i went on the warpath. Funny thing is, i think that alot of people don't like the other candidate BECAUSE they want theirs to win. confusing but possible.
Ive read both policies statements pretty well, and in all honesty, i don't see much difference in future looking ideas. My choice is made due to what i consider to be a case of integrity. Some things where done before and some things have been done since. I know that people have been slinging alot of mud both ways but for me, a few concrete things have stuck to Hillary.
I think that Obama's stance on divisiveness is a strong issue for me. I hope that it becomes reality.
I know my in-laws support her but it could be worse. They could be republicans.

12. Is he cool enough to poop vanilla ice cream? |
|
THAT, my friend, is cool.
------
Having said that, I want to say that there are some of us from Illinois that were Obama supporters before it was the "cool" thing to do.
For me, it wasn't about his "rock star" image. It had exactly nothing to do with his wife, kids, religion, or his race. It was all about hearing him speak at a local Dem dinner and standing there talking with him after it was over. I was in his corner after I watched him absolutely blow out a room full of "pocketbook liberals" with his Senate primary stump speech--the conversation after only solidified it.
He moved me to the point that I volunteered for Obama in spite of the fact that my husband was a field coordinator for a different candidate.
