Clinton leads among gay super delegates
McClurkin!

Campaigns aggressively courting uncommitted Dems

LOU CHIBBARO JR
Friday, February 15, 2008

Twenty-one openly gay Democrats have been identified as super delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer, and 12 have declared their support for presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As of this week, just two of the gay super delegates had declared their support for presidential contender Barack Obama, while seven were listed as undeclared.

Under party rules, super delegates — who consist mostly of party activists, Democratic governors and members of Congress — are not obligated to commit themselves to any candidate and are free to switch from one candidate to another.

In a telephone briefing for the news media on Tuesday, the National Stonewall Democrats, the gay partisan group, released the names of the known gay male and lesbian super delegates. Officials with the group noted that, similar to most of the 796 super delegates, the gay and lesbians among their ranks are longtime party activists in their respective states.

When you vote for a candidate you empower their followers as well as him or her and I don't want that on my conscience...

And what the fuck does "gay friendly" mean coming from this straight guy?

Gay folks should not have one more right than straight folks or one right less for that matter...

10. There are Obama super delegates, you know
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 07:53 AM by terrya
You DO know that, right?

And the super delegates who are gay chose Hillary, I'm sure, for a variety of reasons. But if they're like me, they did also take into consideration that she IS more attuned to the GLBT community and its issues than your candidate.

And by the way...learn to fucking spell, all right? It's "delegates" not "deligates". There IS Spell check here.

Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 08:07 AM by terrya
If you don't fucking care about GLBT people and their issues, fine. But don't come piss into a thread about issues that other people DO care about. I don't do it...I don't go into a positive thread about Obama and make snarky, bullshit comments like the above asshole did in this thread.

We have come to expect the latent or not so latent homophobia among a certain candidate's supporters...

Barack Obama is a handsome guy. But we're not looking for some j/o fantasy. Believe it or not, we're not silly, frivolous people. We gay people have the same concerns as you heteros...the war in Iraq, the economy, global warming, etc. There are some gay guys who have decided that Obama would be the better President. And, in the case the OP mentioned, those gay super delegates have decided on Hillary. It's that simple.
